30 Hours Per Week! The MGH Cancer Center is seeking an outstanding job share opportunity for two qualified nurses to serve as Allogeneic (Allo) Hematopoietic Cell Transplant (HCT) Nurse Navigators. These nurse navigators will be vital in guiding patients and loved ones through the complexities of the Allo HCT journey. Additionally, they will be thoroughly integrated in the coordination of each allogeneic transplant. - Support physicians, advanced practitioners, program nurses, research staff and processing technologists. - Assist in the orchestration of high risk, highly sophisticated clinical services while adhering to strict industry standards and guidelines set forth by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT), National Marrow Donor Program FDA and Joint Commission. - Act autonomously, use critical thinking and have good judgement. - Required to manage multiple and diverse computer systems. These systems include but are not limited to portals used to request the manufacturing of cellular therapy products or to coordinate donor searches, work ups and collections. - The nurse navigators will have a significant impact on patients, donors and their loved ones daily as they prepare them for cell collection, admission, and transplant. - Principal duties and responsibilities: Primary Responsibilities At the direction of the attending physician, the assigned navigator will work with patients undergoing allogeneic (donor) stem cell transplant. Responsible for the proper and efficient scheduling of all clinical services in the outpatient and inpatient setting as it relates to transplant readiness including but not limited to: pre-transplant work-up, medical clearance and admission. Requires formal training and comprehensive understanding of EPIC scheduling and ordering systems. Collaborates with the Transplant Search Coordinator to initiate Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) typing for both recipients and potential donors. Works in conjunctionwith the Transplant Search Coordinator and the NMDP Case Manager to facilitate all National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) unrelated donor workups including the initiation of donor or cord blood searches, requesting and prioritizing potential matches, and finalization of product delivery. Works in conjunction with the MGH Transplant & Cellular Therapy Level I Coordinator when requesting related donor products. Both types of coordination require extensive communication and highly detailed and organized record keeping to safely and precisely coordinate patient admission and cell procurement. Acts as a primary point of contact for MGH clinicians, advanced practice providers, lab technologists, social work staff and quality management as it relates to allogeneic transplant. Actively participates at interdisciplinary case review meetings. Must maintain precise and organized records and have a thorough understanding of the sophisticated documentation and clinical testing required for all allogeneic therapy and treatment plans. Must understand and implement detailed standard operating procedures (SOP’s). Obtains medical clearance for admission by providing physicians with test results following detailed schemas and checklists. Provides extensive direction and optimally communicates intricate components of non-clinical care to patients and ensures their understanding of schedules for testing, chemotherapy, and admission. Maintains testing logs and prepares test kits which must contain all required documentation, blood collection tubes, and labeling for both research and standard of care. Escorts patients to various appointments throughout the hospital as required. Accurately maintains a program calendar as it relates to laboratory processing and their availability for cell procurement, product arrival, cryopreservation (if applicable) and infusion. Requires formal and successful completion of one-time transplant coordinator training with the National Marrow Donor Program.
