First Citizens is in search of a Executive Architect, a strategic addition to the Chief Technology Officer's Senior Leadership team and a trusted partner to Senior Business leaders, as we move to scale and modernize technology and process. The Executive Architect is responsible for driving the technology architecture strategy for the enterprise and partnering with the Delivery teams to ensure successful execution in support of the enterprise direction. This leader will oversee the design and implementation of secure and scalable enterprise architecture for all technology solutions through effective design authority, frameworks, and governance. A strong candidate will demonstrate the ability to successfully integrate new or existing technologies across the enterprise that improve efficiencies and business growth in line with the reference architecture while staying abreast of industry trends and external evolution in technologies to drive innovation and value for the business. The Executive Architect will evaluate, recommend, and implement technology stacks, frameworks, and practices to support current and future growth of the organization. An influential technology leader, the Executive Architect will also organize an energetic internal architect community for knowledge sharing, innovative thinking, and collaboration. This role will lead a small team of architects and governance specialist, but their influence will span across the enterprise and be a critical component of First Citizens' technology transformation.

Responsibilities

  • Strategy - Drives the strategic direction, development, and future growth of technologies utilized across the enterprise. Establishes an enterprise-wide technical vision and translates it into a multi-year road map to achieve technology and business goals. Manages the technology portfolio. Collaborates with and influences lines of business and Technology senior leadership on technologies that align with enterprise initiatives and strategic objectives. Counsels Capital Planning efforts related to large enterprise project expenditures. Has input into the Technology Strategic Plan, ensuring alignment to business and technical architecture roadmaps
  • Enterprise Architecture - Creates the architecture strategy, principles and framework for all bank technology and oversees adherence across the enterprise. Partners with senior leaders within Technology and the business to ensure implementation of lifecycle roadmaps, adherence to Banks standards in alignment with industry and regulator expectations, and stewardship of design principles. Leads the definition and validation of architecture models and usage patterns. Advocates architecture guidance and direction via a team of Enterprise Architects aligned to Platform leaders for projects, programs, and initiatives to deliver secure and resilient design. Drives technology containment across the enterprise.
  • Technical Consulting - Identifies and communicates the technical thought leadership and drives innovation by fostering incubation of new ideas. Guides the organization through evaluation of emerging technologies and Technology practices identifying opportunities to propel the business through technological advancements. Composes technology architecture principles that assess risks in existing application, data, security, and infrastructure domains, and ensures architecture principle alignment with enterprise standards.
  • Solutions Architecture - Creates a community of practice for all solution architects to drive consistency of approach, alignment, and interest groups on topics such as emerging technologies and trends
  • Delivery - accountable for the API governance, design and execution, and the middleware layer. Identify opportunities to centralize fragmented technology such as Business Process Management tools, Document Solutions etc.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and 15 years of experience in Information Technology to include leadership/management with a preference in managing Strategy, Architecture, Application, Infrastructure, Operations, Application, Data and/or Information Security teams.

Experience in a Chief Architect role preferred.

Additional Requirements
  • Knowledge of Information technology and applications, especially cloud and API's
  • Knowledge of strategy casting, design and communication, including The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF)
  • Ability to establish and articulate a vision as well as successfully assess, acquire, retain and manage talent
  • Ability to bring cross-functional teams together towards common business and technology goals
  • Ability to build relationships with Senior Leaders across the organization
  • Possess strong people management and team building skills
  • Ability to influence and drive strategic change across organization
  • Ability to executive development programs
