Job Summary

Promotes state-of-the-art development techniques to develop control algorithms for brakes, steering, powertrain, and other required sub-systems. Provides technical skills of autonomous vehicle motion control systems and drive-by-wire development. Supports the day-to-day tasks required to develop and implement state-of-the-art development techniques assigned to the unit. Assists in the creation and refinement of algorithms for autonomous driving motion control and drive-by-wire systems. Conducts field tests to gather data and assess the functionality of autonomous systems and drive-by-wire systems in real-world conditions. Works with cross-functional teams, including software engineers, hardware engineers, and vehicle lab technicians. Facilitates collaboration with Isuzu technology partners.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supports senior engineers in developing and refining designs for redundant drive-by-wire systems and autonomous driving motion control systems.

20%

  • Implements control algorithms for redundant drive-by-wire systems and self-driving vehicles. Ensures safe and efficient vehicle operation in a variety of driving scenarios.

  • Conducts simulations and real-world tests to validate control systems under diverse conditions. Analyzes sensor data to improve control strategies and ensures optimal vehicle performance.

10%

  • Works closely with perception, localization, and planning teams to integrate control systems into overall autonomous vehicle architectures.

  • Communicates with related groups efficiently, including other Isuzu divisions and departments and Isuzu Japan.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to: Supervisor, Autonomous Driving, Vehicle Motion Control

Education, Experience & Training

  • Master’s degree in engineering, math, or computer science
  • Minimum one year of experience in programming Python or C++
  • Minimum one year of hands-on experience in autonomous driving, motion control, and drive by wire system development
  • Seminar/industrial training in specialty preferred

KNOWLEDGE

  • Advanced knowledge of autonomous driving, software architecture, software development
  • Experience developing motion control and drive-by-wire products from end to end
  • Experience developing architecture and infrastructure for big data, AI, and autonomous driving deployment
  • Advanced knowledge of automotive mechanical/electrical systems

Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent programming skills in Python, C++, Matlab/Simulink
  • Advanced skills in autonomous driving/AI development as demonstrated by scholarly/industrial achievements
  • Excellent skills in software architecture
  • Experience working with a diverse team and leading them to solve difficult and complex software, simulation, and mathematical problems
  • Advanced report writing and analytical skills

PHYSICAL STANDARDS

Employee must be able to perform occasional light lifting (5 - 25 lbs.) and rare heavy lifting (60 lbs.).

Must be able on rare occasions to bend, crawl, climb, crouch, kneel and reach above shoulder level in the performance of job duties. Must be able to work in hot, cold, and high-altitude extremes.

Position requires 10 - 15% travel, including overnight and weekend stays.

Pay scale for this position is between $83,032 and $105,866. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
