We are seeking an experienced DB2 UDB Database Administrator (DBA) responsible for the installation, configuration, administration, and performance tuning of IBM DB2 Universal Databases. The ideal candidate will have strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and experience with large-scale enterprise databases. You will ensure the reliability, security, and scalability of DB2 UDB environments while supporting mission-critical applications.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Database Installation and Configuration: Install and configure DB2 UDB databases on various operating systems (AIX, Linux, or Windows) for production, development, and testing environments.
  • Performance Tuning: Monitor and fine-tune database performance by optimizing queries, indexes, memory usage, and I/O performance. Ensure database efficiency and stability.
  • Backup and Recovery: Design and implement backup and recovery procedures using tools like DB2 Backup and Restore utilities. Ensure high availability and disaster recovery strategies are in place.
  • Security Management: Manage database security, including creating user roles, privileges, and access controls. Implement encryption and ensure compliance with security policies.
  • Database Maintenance: Perform regular maintenance tasks, such as database patching, upgrades, reorganizations, and migrations. Monitor health, logs, and space utilization.
  • Data Modeling and Design: Work with application teams to design and implement database schemas, tables, views, indexes, and other database objects.
  • Troubleshooting and Support: Identify and resolve database issues, including performance bottlenecks, errors, and failures. Provide support during production outages.
  • Automation and Scripting: Create automation scripts for routine database administration tasks using shell scripting, SQL, or DB2-specific tools.
  • Documentation: Maintain thorough documentation of database configurations, policies, and procedures.
Qualifications:
  • Experience: 3-5+ years of experience as a DB2 UDB DBA, with expertise in administering and tuning large-scale DB2 environments.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Skills:
    • In-depth knowledge of IBM DB2 UDB architecture, database administration, and performance tuning.
    • Experience with DB2 utilities (e.g., db2pd, db2look, db2move).
    • Familiarity with high-availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) technologies, such as DB2 HADR.
    • Proficient in SQL scripting and performance analysis.
    • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
    • Knowledge of database security best practices.
    • Familiarity with operating systems (AIX, Linux, or Windows) and shell scripting.
    • Experience with database backup and recovery procedures.
    • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
