We are looking for an in-lab product research associate in the Sport Research Lab. This person will be fundamentally tasked with conducting in-person research in the NSRL (mostly biomechanics and physiology) on a high-priority footwear project, working with electronics and at times unfamiliar data collection tools. We are looking for someone who is comfortable working with people / athletes on a daily basis and enjoys spending their time in a sports science laboratory setting, running experiments and collecting quality data. Duties will be focused heavily on data collection, though there may be some data processing and analysis work for someone with expertise and interest.

The Sport Research Lab (SRL) is a multidisciplinary team of researchers, innovators, and scientists who lead with science to make athletes* measurably better. We deliver validated insights and innovative capabilities to drive the future of our products and services. As diverse as our athletes* are, our evidence-based solutions meet the constantly evolving demands of sport and life. We apply scientific methods and research results to drive new concepts and platforms across multiple Innovation teams.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We re looking for an experienced teammate to conduct research at the intersection of sport, biomechanics, and robotics to help develop new, innovative products for everyday athletes. You would work closely with a research team and use biomechanical hardware and software systems to collect, analyze, and interpret data. The successful candidate would bring skills in these areas, an ability to communicate complex data in simple ways, and an innovators mindset.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
As a contract researcher in the Sport Research Lab (SRL), you will work closely with the Principal Researcher to understand the research plan and vision, then execute the experiments independently. You may also develop new tools, methods, and procedures to streamline data acquisition. Finally, you will analyze and summarize data from research to communicate findings to the Principal Researcher and research team.

A typical week would include meetings with a Principal Researcher to align on the research experiment plan, heads-down work time to operationalize that program, and hands-on laboratory work to collect and analyze the relevant data. It would also include meetings with other research colleagues to align on progress and next steps in the research process.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Ideally 2+ years of experience
  • MSc in Biomechanics, Engineering, Kinesiology, or related fields, or BS plus 2 years of experience
  • Experience using in-lab and field-based biomechanical data collection tools with human test participants
  • Effective communication, people, and collaboration skills
  • Experience writing programs for biomechanical analyses, signal processing, and statistical analyses (Python, Matlab, R, Visual 3D, and/or Javascript)
  • Bias toward action and resilience in the face of challenges
  • Experience in robotics or mechatronics is a plus
