Project Engineer Newark, NJ
We are working with a well-established client to hire a talented Project Engineer to join their team on a full-time, direct basis in Newark, NJ. In this role, youll take a lead position in delivering multi-discipline design projects for both public and private site development, while collaborating with a wide range of municipal clients across various sectors.
This is an exciting opportunity to manage challenging projects from conception through to completion, contributing to impactful land development work.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage multiple projects, including oversight of schedules and budgets to ensure timely, cost-effective delivery.
- Regularly engage with clients to maintain strong relationships and ensure project alignment with their goals.
- Prepare detailed proposals for new and existing clients, including fee estimation.
- Oversee the development of comprehensive Land Development Plans, from schematic design to construction, including engineering drawings, technical specifications, and reports.
- Manage and coordinate permitting processes with regulatory agencies for large-scale, complex projects.
- Delegate and mentor Junior Engineers and Drafters, providing guidance in Stormwater Management (SWM), Utility Coordination, and Erosion & Sediment Control (E&SC) design.
- Tackle additional engineering tasks as needed.
Basic Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering (or a closely related discipline).
- 8+ years of professional experience in Engineering, particularly in Land Development design.
- PE license in New Jersey, or ability to obtain one within 6 months of the start date.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Additional certifications such as Certified Municipal Engineer (CME), Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM), or Professional Planner (PP) are highly desirable.
- Strong background in project management with proven ability to handle multi-discipline projects.
- Advanced proficiency in site design, including site layout, grading, utility design, stormwater management, and municipal regulatory approvals.
- Expertise in stormwater management and Hydrology and Hydraulics (H&H) modeling.
- Proficiency with engineering software tools, such as AutoCAD Civil 3D and CADD, and project management tools.
- Experience with office software including Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook), Adobe Acrobat, and Bluebeam Revu is a plus.
- Ability to see the "big picture" and align project goals with cross-disciplinary coordination.
- Strong communication skills, punctuality, and a proven ability to work both independently and as part of a dynamic team.
