Columbia Energy and Environmental Services is an established small business headquartered in Richland, WA. We offer full-service engineering, design, fabrication, instrumentation and controls, testing, and technology development. We are currently seeking a Principal Level Electrical/I&C Engineer with at least 15 years of experience to join our team in Idaho Falls, ID. This is an excellent opportunity for engineers looking to advance their career and take on leadership roles, mentoring younger staff, acting as discipline lead for projects, and managing design/build/test projects.

Job Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Lead and mentor junior engineers and staff, fostering professional development and growth.
  • Act as discipline lead for projects, overseeing technical aspects and ensuring project success.
  • Identify, design, evaluate, and test solutions for projects involving nuclear and hazardous waste remediation, chemical processing, and commercial development.
  • Develop P&IDs and handle all aspects of Instrumentation and Controls, including control system design, control panel design, and testing.
  • Conduct design and analysis in accordance with established codes and standards (e.g., NEC, UL-508A).
  • Specify and integrate hardware and software components.
  • Program PLCs.
  • Provide support to multiple simultaneous projects and project teams based in WA, ID, and other locations.
  • Collaborate with designers to produce detailed design drawings.
  • Generate test plans/procedures and support system testing.
  • Maintain configuration and control of baseline drawings and documents.
  • Communicate task status, progress, technical issues, and meet project deadlines.
  • Review project design inputs, outputs, and deliverables to ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, specifications, requirements, and contracts.
  • Apply experience in fabrication projects to ensure integration and manufacturability of designs.
  • Ensure safety in office and shop environments, maintaining a safety focus in all aspects of assigned roles.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor s degree or higher from an ABET accredited university.
  • Minimum of 15 years of demonstrated experience in control system design.
  • Experience leading project teams and mentoring junior staff.
  • Experience preparing design deliverables, resolving technical review comments, and finalizing design deliverables.
  • Experience in construction oversight for receipt inspection, installation, testing, training, turn-over, continued support, and upgrades.
  • Proficiency with all aspects of PLCs.
  • Experience troubleshooting problems with instrumentation, monitoring, and control systems.
  • Self-starter with the ability to focus on project needs and delivery schedules.
  • Attention to detail and pride of ownership.
  • Willingness to take on new challenges and learn new skills while contributing to project teams.
  • Our company works with United States government contracts and will require proof of U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain Government clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in hardware and software integration.
  • Registered Professional Engineer.
  • ASME NQA-1 experience.
  • DOE experience.
  • Experience at a nuclear facility and/or Navy Nuclear experience.
  • Project Manager experience.
  • Willingness to take on new challenges and learn new skills.

Working Conditions:

This position is primarily based in an office environment with occasional work in the company s Fabrication Shop and off-site locations. Occasional travel, including travel to our WA facility, may be required.
