Job Description
The Robotics Coach is responsible for recruitment of both students and mentors, day-to-day operations of the team including budget, purchasing, inventory, designing, building, programming, collaborating, planning, entering, and participating in the FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition) competitions. The Robotics Coach is responsible for creating the vision for and enhancing the robotics program.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
- Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
- Supports and adheres to the Code of Conduct and policies and procedures of the school and the Diocese
- Abides by the confidentiality policy set forth in the Diocesan Employee Handbook.
- Work with strategy team to finalize all robot capabilities
- Work with CAD team to design the robot
- Work with build team to prototype mechanism and build field elements
- Work with build team to fabricate parts and assemble the robot
- Work with electrical team to wire the robot
- Work with programming team to finalize on joystick control and test the robot
- Work with all sub teams to tune the robot to play the game.
- Work with drive team to determine style of play
- Work with parental liaisons
- In the offseason, work with student members and other mentors on special projects to improve our team s capabilities in all areas.
- Responsible for all other projects, tasks, etc., as assigned.
Travel Requirements:
- Some travel required for competitions
Education and Experience Preferred:
- Must have three years of FRC experience
- Must have a baseline technical knowledge
- Must enjoy working with high school students and have a desire to build positive relationships
- Ability to work with students in a way that boosts confidence, inspires their technical learning, builds both problem-solving and collaborative skills, and puts students into the position of better understanding their God-given gifts and talents in choosing a direction for college and future careers
Knowledge and Skills Preferred:
- Demonstrated ability to lead and work well with professionals
- Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data
- Strong leadership, organization, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Strong background in the FRC Robotics program
Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:
Required to work some nights and weekend
Required to manage high to moderate levels of stress
Required to work in standard office and school condition
Required to lift or carry moderately heavy items to a maximum of 35 lbs
Required to maintain composure and avoid inappropriate displays of emotion
Required to sit, stand, bend, stoop, reach, grab, pull, hear, see, and speak on a daily basis
Required to perform repetitive physical tasks such as computer keyboarding, writing, reading
