Responsibilities:

The Y12 National Security Complex, simply known as Y12, has three primary national security missions that protect our country and our allies around the world. Maintaining the US nuclear weapons stockpile, reducing global threats, and fueling the US Navy s nuclear propulsion program are the key activities at this historic site.

The Piping Engineer will be responsible for providing support to the Mission Engineering group with full time piping design engineering support for facility and production area activities in Cat 2 and Cat3 facilities. Other responsibilities are:

  • Provide design output documentation to support major facility modifications and Project Engineering.
  • Design output documents typically developed by a piping design engineer within the Mission Engineering organization.
  • Design drawings, engineering instructions, data sheets, equipment specifications, equivalency evaluations, calculations, etc.
  • Works with other engineering disciplines and other plant organizations to produce timely design output.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor s degree in an engineering discipline accredited by Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) - ASME B31.3 Process Piping Design.
  • Requires an understanding of Conduct of Engineering, Conduct of Operations, Conduct of Maintenance for facilities operating within a nuclear regulated environment.
  • Requires strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interface effectively with various clients, production and support organizations, management, and hourly wage employees.
  • Must be willing to perform field walk-downs and work in a production environment.
  • Must be eligible for a security clearance and maintain eligibility throughout period of employment.
  • Must pass a drug screening test.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in Nuclear Regulatory Commission or Department of Energy (DOE) regulated environment is desirable.
  • An active DOE Q clearance: however, all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status.

Location/Work Arrangement:

  • This position is full-time (40-hour work week).
  • Onsite position at the Y12 facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
