About The Role

Manager, Plant Operations

The Plant Operations Manager will oversee the daily operations of the LanzaJet Freedom Pines Fuels Refinery, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency in alignment with company goals. This role reports to the Plant Manager, and will focus on enhancing productivity, safety, and operational excellence while fostering a culture of continuous improvement. The Plant Operations Manager will also act as the Incident Commander for all operational emergencies and serve as the site operations representative during off-hours, especially during operational upsets and emergencies. This position is full-time on-site in Soperton, Georgia.

Responsibilities

  • Operational Oversight: Manage and optimize daily operations, including production, quality control, maintenance, and logistics, to ensure adherence to safety, environmental, and regulatory standards
  • Team Leadership: Lead and develop a high-performing operations team through effective coaching, mentoring, and performance management, promoting a culture of teamwork and accountability
  • Training and Competency Assurance: Provide a comprehensive training, competency, and assurance program for the operations team to ensure that all members possess the necessary skills and knowledge for their roles
  • Succession Planning: Ensure staffing succession, growth, and opportunity plans for the operations team, identifying and developing future leaders and promoting career advancement
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive process improvements, reduce waste and enhance efficiency
  • Budget Management: Assist in developing and managing the operational budget, ensuring cost control measures are in place and adhered to
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including engineering, maintenance, and supply chain, to ensure seamless operations and support project initiatives. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to enhance operational performance and community engagement
  • Safety and Compliance: Champion safety initiatives, ensuring compliance with all safety regulations, conducting regular safety audits, and promoting a safe working environment for all employees
  • Performance Metrics: Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate operational performance and implement corrective actions when necessary
  • Project Management: Lead and participate in operational projects, including plant upgrades, capacity expansions, and efficiency improvements, ensuring timely completion within budget
  • Incident Command: Serve as the Incident Commander for all operational emergencies, leading response efforts and ensuring effective communication and coordination during crises
  • Community Engagement: As part of the site leadership team, participate in community engagement events, fostering positive relationships and promoting the refinery’s initiatives

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Operations Management, or a related field. Relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
  • Minimum of ten years of experience in operations management within the refinery or manufacturing sector, with a strong understanding of refinery processes and technologies
  • Proven leadership and team-building skills, focusing on developing talent and fostering a positive work environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across various teams
  • Proficiency in using operations management software and tools
  • Experience in managing operational emergencies and leading incident response efforts
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including off-hours, to respond to operational upsets and emergencies
  • Knowledge of the refinery or manufacturing industry's safety regulations and compliance standards
  • Ability to represent the site during community engagement activities and participate actively as a member of the site leadership team
