Job Duties: Determine what ads to show and how to rank. Responsible for doing applied research work in building new ads placements on eBay search page. Data mining of users; behavioral logs, running offline mathematical simulations and machine learning modeling. Build Machine Learning models and data pipelines to deliver insightful yet practical solutions. Seek scientifically valid solutions that deliver real value to eBay Customers. Work with multiple teams to help promote standard scientific methodologies and processes in your field. Present key technical and novel research work in public forums and conferences. Partial telecommuting permitted from within a commutable distance.
Minimum Requirements: Ph.D., or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Statistics, or Mathematics, or a related field. Employer will also accept a master's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics or a related field plus one year of experience in the job offered as an Applied Researcher or a related occupation.
Special Skill Requirements:
Demonstrated ability with the following:
1. One or more of the following: classification, regression, recommendation systems, targeting systems, ranking systems, fraud detection, online advertising, or related.
2. Python or R, and Java or Scala or C/C++.
3. Big data processing and analytics, e.g. Hadoop, SQL, or Spark.
4. Conducting research in statistics, machine learning or highly related field.
Base salary: $170,186-234,850 per annum. 40 hours per week; M-F, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
If hired, employees will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
