Position Summary:

The Audiovisual (AV) Project Engineer plays a key role in the construction industry, specializing in audiovisual and IT systems. This position requires both technical knowledge and project management expertise to ensure the smooth progression of AV/IT projects from design through to completion. As an integral member of the project team, the Audiovisual (AV) Project Engineer will assist with proposal preparation, presentation development, and project planning. This role also involves managing project scope, costs, schedules, and risks to ensure successful execution.

Requirements:

  • Associate degree in technology or equivalent experience; Bachelor's degree in Engineering preferred.
  • 2+ years of design and engineering support experience in the AV/IT industry.
  • AVIXA CTS certification required within 6 months of hire.
  • CompTIA A+ certification required within one year of hire.
  • Current AVIXA CTS-I or CTS-D certification preferred.
  • Proficiency with Windows and Apple software.
  • Experience in producing drawings and documentation for inclusion in architectural design packages.
  • Proficient in commissioning AV and IT systems.
  • Hands-on experience with AV/IT tools and testing equipment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and solve practical problems in varied environments.
  • Intermediate experience with interpreting and creating instructions in various formats (written, oral, diagram, or schedule).
  • Knowledge of the International Building Code (IBC) and National Electric Code (NEC).
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to deliver presentations, negotiate, and create high-quality documents.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in preparing cost estimates by reviewing blueprints and consulting with professionals.
  • Conduct site surveys and assist with budget estimates, labor, and material resources.
  • Collaborate with project teams to document system design and ensure projects are completed within time, cost, and scope constraints.
  • Develop AV/IT system designs, including facility plans, ceiling plans, electrical plans, and equipment schedules.
  • Assist with the preparation of control system submittals and design calculations for HVAC, lighting, and acoustics.
  • Work with field engineers on troubleshooting, system testing, and commissioning.
  • Assist with bid reviews, take-offs, and submittal preparation on bid projects.
  • Serve as Project Lead on assigned jobs, ensuring all documentation is properly archived.
  • Support job commissioning and ensure system quality and performance meet project requirements.
  • Follow OSHA safety standards and attend site and department meetings.
  • Maintain required certifications and attend training as needed.
  • Strive to maintain a 75% billable/chargeable workload through design, project management, and technical tasks.
