Strategic Planning & Operations Senior Manager

What You Will Do

In this vital role the Strategic Planning & Operations (SPO) Senior Manager for Amgen’s Commercialization, Program & Portfolio Management (CMZ) is responsible for direct support of the Vice President of CMZ, operational support, financial and communication across all CMZ functional leaders, as well as special projects, reporting to the Executive Director, CMZ Portfolio Commercialization Analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Provides comprehensive support to the Vice President, coordinating preparations for leadership meetings, developing internal communication strategies, and managing executive reporting.
  • Facilitates VP-led Global Program Manager (GPM) forums and staff roundtable discussions, enhancing open communication and collaborative engagement across the department.
  • Supports CMZ VP-sponsored events, ensuring strategic alignment and providing logistical support for leadership meetings and town halls.
  • Works closely with Human Resources and Finance, overseeing budgeting, department forecasting, and financial management to align with departmental goals.
  • Responsible for initiative level tracking within CMZ Program and Portfolio Management Office (PMO) ensuring objectives and timelines are met.
  • Develops and implements communication strategies, conveying critical information effectively within CMZ and to the broader Amgen community.
  • Manages logistics and content for CMZ leadership team meetings and department events, like the CMZ Summit, ensuring all preparations meet strategic and operational goals.
  • Leads strategic projects aimed at enhancing departmental efficiency and effectiveness, coordinating efforts to optimize processes and adapt strategies to meet evolving business needs.
  • Collaborates with CMZ function heads, driving strategic initiatives and ensuring alignment across various organizational levels.
  • Represents CMZ on cross-functional task forces, addressing and escalating critical issues to enhance strategic coherence and integration.
  • Leads the development and dissemination of high-impact communication materials for events and internal updates.
  • Oversees the setting of department goals and tracks progress, coordinating with CMZ Therapeutic Area (TA) heads and other stakeholders to ensure goals are strategically aligned and clearly communicated.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree & 2 years of technology experience OR
  • Master’s degree & 4 years of technology experience OR
  • Bachelor’s degree & 6 years of technology experience OR
  • Associate's degree & 10 years of technology experience OR
  • High School Diploma /GED & 12 years of technology experience
  • AND 6 years of managerial experience directly managing people and leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, and directing the allocation of resources.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrates strong executive presence, capable of quickly establishing credibility and influencing individuals at all organizational levels.
  • Possesses deep expertise in pharmaceutical R&D and drug development, backed by substantial leadership experience within the biopharmaceutical industry.
  • Experienced in leading complex governance processes, guiding teams through the intricate dynamics of drug development and commercialization.
  • Skilled in project management within a healthcare-related environment, focusing on strategic initiative operationalization and execution.
  • Proficient in using project management tools including Smartsheet, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Teams, applying these tools to effectively manage projects.
  • Has a broad understanding of financial and resource management practices pertinent to the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Exhibits strong emotional intelligence, skilled in influencing without authority and navigating complex matrix environments.
  • Experience using Project Management tools (Smartsheet, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Teams), methodologies

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
