THE POSITION

This is the storytelling opportunity of a lifetime: the chance to make people believe in and rally behind the quest to make their town—Pittsburgh—the best place to live in the world.

We’re looking for a creative and strategic leader with an entrepreneurial spirit who will bring an innovative mindset and an interdisciplinary toolkit to our mission. As Head of Storytelling, you will own the platforms on which we’ll communicate locally and globally—promoting our brand narrative, shaping our communication strategy, creating campaign concepts, and directing powerful visuals and verbals to produce a portfolio of engaging content.

Pittsburgh Tomorrow’s Head of Storytelling will serve on our Executive Leadership Team alongside our Founder/CEO and COO. As a social innovator, you will harness the power of compelling content to engage, inform, and inspire our audiences through modern and creative storytelling.

  • Leadership and Management - You will be a hands-on creative strategist—rolling up your sleeves to be both a model of innovation as well as a process-driven operator to lead and manage a team of creators to produce their best work.
  • Community Learning and Engagement - You will be active in the community—conducting research activities with stakeholders to gather insights and unlock opportunities to build a robust portfolio of ongoing touchpoints, brand experiences, marketing campaigns, and unique content products.
  • Content Strategy and Creation - You will be a master of all mediums—optimizing print, social, digital, and experiential with a content strategy that activates our brand, promotes our programs, and creates a space to tell Pittsburgh’s new story.
  • Design and Operations - You will be a creative hub—operating an internal design studio with fellow strategists, designers, and program managers to lead the process from design to development through deployment, ensuring creative ideas are supported by strategic plans, internal systems, and external relationships.
  • Project Management - You will be mission control for the team—developing a clear communications framework and roadmap to drive a well-managed portfolio, action plans, timelines, and budgets.

OUR REQUIREMENTS

You’ll be a great fit, if you can:

  • Thrive in a fast-paced, forward-thinking, dynamic environment with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Demonstrate 5+ years experience designing, developing, and managing multi-faceted storytelling platforms in-house or at an agency.
  • Present a diverse portfolio illustrating application of storytelling innovation and creativity and mastery of strategic communications and content creation for consumer-facing brands.
  • Design and direct communication campaigns and products—from idea to impact—in both an individual contributor and leadership role.
  • Apply the principles of design thinking and human-centered design to learn about people’s attitudes, motivations, and experiences and build products to engage, inform, and inspire.
  • Demonstrate exceptional analytical thinking, decision-making, interpersonal and executive communication, time management, and collaboration skills.
  • Lead, manage and coach high-performing teams to set big goals, monitor progress, take accountability, and pursue excellence.
