We are currently seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to fill the Mortgage Loan Assistant position in our Cedar Rapids office. Position Overview

As a Mortgage Loan Assistant, you will be responsible for tasks related to first and second mortgages. The role requires excellent attention to detail, strong critical thinking skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. The ideal candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong organizational abilities, and proficiency in the Windows environment and other computer applications.

In this role, you will support Loan Originators and Loan Processors by gathering documents, ordering products, interacting with members, Realtors, and vendors, and ensuring the accuracy and completeness of loan files. You will also help match members with the products and services best suited to their needs, all while maintaining exceptional customer service.

The ideal candidate should have a solid working knowledge of Desktop Underwriting and mortgage origination software to help meet operational goals and maintain positive interactions with members and professionals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Communicate with members (borrowers), real estate agents, escrow companies, appraisers, processors, and underwriters to manage key deadlines during the mortgage loan process.
  • Collect and deliver necessary member documentation for the loan process, including income documentation, asset statements, and disclosure documents.
  • Work directly with members to ensure a seamless loan process, including assisting with loan applications when needed.
  • Assist Loan Originators with sending denial notices and managing deadlines for disclosures or locking loans.
  • Proactively identify potential issues with credit applications that may delay or cancel loan closings.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact both inside and outside the organization to resolve conflicts, build relationships, and solicit cooperation.
  • Discretion and tact in communication.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions and interpret mathematical information to analyze tax returns and calculate borrower income.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines efficiently.
  • Ability to multitask in a busy, task-oriented environment.

Preferred Experience

  • 1-3 years of similar or related experience in the mortgage or financial services industry.

Education

  • High school diploma or GED required.
