The Proposal Writer is responsible for crafting multi-million-dollar funding proposals as a member of the American Diabetes Association’s Corporate Relations team. This team is responsible for securing funding from healthcare, pharmaceutical, medical device, and consumer-facing companies to advance the mission of the ADA. Working alongside the Vice President of Partner Relations, this candidate will lead the proposal development, writing and editing process based on identified collaboration opportunities. This includes working with ADA subject matter experts to develop a project budget and ensuring proposals align with ADA and funder requirements and priorities. The ideal candidate has proposal writing experience, is successful at leading cross-functional groups, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, edit and coordinate written proposals and applications to prospective and current funding sources.
  • Synthesize complex information into clear and concise proposals and narratives, ensuring scientific accuracy.
  • Manage the full proposal development process, from first draft to subject matter expert review, to budget builds, to final version - always adhering to outlined timeline.
  • Maintain all proposal and contract documents, ensuring version control.
  • Maintain ongoing schedules of submissions and reporting deadlines.
  • Work with subject matter experts to write, develop and prepare budgets and other reports for funders
  • Ensure that the creation and tracking of opportunities is documented appropriately in the Customer Relationship Management database (Blackbaud CRM).
  • Serve as liaison to a variety of project teams, ensuring all are aware of the status of each proposal.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree or equivalent work experience is required. Doctoral degree in science or health care related fields is preferred.
  • Five (5) to Eight (8) years of proven proposal writing experience preferably in health care with scientific background and understanding of how to find and support proposed approach through data sources.
  • Track record of grant development and knowledge of identifying the right funding opportunities is a plus.
  • Demonstrated project management skills - strong ability to multi-task, organize and prioritize tasks to balance assigned responsibilities in a deadline-oriented environment.
  • Experience developing budgets and reporting on outcomes/results.
  • Experience leading cross-functional groups and facilitating strategy with a focus on collaborative solutions.
  • Strong proofreading and editing skills, with keen attention to detail.
  • Experience collaborating with internal partners and volunteers.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong critical thinking, judgment and strategic decision-making.
  • Ability to work effectively independently as well as in a team setting.
  • Knowledge of diabetes a plus.
