About the Role

As a Principal Software Engineer (Infrastructure), you will be a technical leader with a strong focus on designing and optimizing cloud-native infrastructure. You will collaborate with multi-functional teams to define the architecture and provide technical leadership on best practices and innovative solutions. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Architecting, building, and optimizing scalable, secure, and reliable cloud infrastructure for large-scale distributed systems.
  • Leading efforts to enhance and automate CI/CD pipelines, ensuring efficient, repeatable deployments.
  • Providing technical mentorship and guidance on infrastructure as code, containerization, and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes.
  • Developing innovative solutions to enhance platform reliability, observability, and scalability in a cloud-native environment.
  • Contributing to strategic decisions on cloud architecture, infrastructure improvements, and overall DevOps practices.
  • Partnering with security teams to ensure platforms are built with best-in-class security and compliance standards.
  • Driving continuous improvement in infrastructure management, deployment processes, and team efficiency.
  • Owning the end-to-end lifecycle of infrastructure features, from design and development to deployment and operational excellence.

About You

Basic Qualifications
  • 12+ years of software engineering or DevOps experience
  • 5+ years of experience in managing using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using such as Terraform, Cloudformation or similar
  • 6+ years experience and knowledge of public cloud hyperscalers such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform or Azure
  • 5+ years experience working with containers and orchestration platforms, specifically with Kubernetes, at scale

Other Qualifications
  • BS or MS degree in Computer Science, Math, or equivalent
  • Experience with at least one programming language such as Java, Go, Python.
  • Solid understanding of SDLC, CI/CD, and deployment methodologies, with a focus on automation and DevOps best practices
  • Experience with GitOps principles and tools, fostering automation and reliability.
  • Experience administering relational databases, e.g. PostgreSQL is a plus
  • Experience with observability tooling and instrumentation such as OpenTelemetry and Grafana
  • Experience defining SLIs and SLOs for distributed production systems
  • Experience and solid understanding of internet protocols and technologies such as TCP/IP, TLS, DNS, PKI, etc
  • Experience in Linux administration and scripting tools
  • Experience building and running distributed systems at scale in production
  • Knowledge of standard methodologies related to security, performance, and disaster recovery
  • Proven ability of working in multi-functional teams and agile delivery
  • Experience leading teams in a fast-paced, startup-like environment with an emphasis on innovation and exploration.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Workday Pay Transparency Statement

The annualized base salary ranges for the primary location and any additional locations are listed below. Workday pay ranges vary based on work location. As a part of the total compensation package, this role may be eligible for the Workday Bonus Plan or a role-specific commission/bonus, as well as annual refresh stock grants. Recruiters can share more detail during the hiring process. Each candidate's compensation offer will be based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, geography, experience, skills, job duties, and business need, among other things. Primary Location Base Pay Range: $172,000 USD - $258,000 USD

Additional US Location(s) Base Pay Range: $163,400 USD - $294,000 USD
