Position Summary

The Research & Special Projects position is engaged in a variety of research, community engagement, and special projects that are related to the work of the SJRP. The candidate represents the research office with a high degree of efficiency and poise, participating in data/information collection and analysis, creating presentations and writing action summaries when needed, all with the highest degree of attention to detail and professionalism. The primary role and responsibility of this position is to engage community members in community based participatory research, community engagement activities, and special projects. The candidate delivers training for community members, provides resources and general support as needed and available, and documents all engagement and activities. The level of rigor will inform the methodology, engagement, and analysis or documentation. This is a role that requires deep knowledge of the community culture, norms, and history. The candidate must be fluent in both English and Spanish.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 Years experience working in community-based work; existing knowledge of the Watts community, resources, services, gaps, and needs. (Required)
  • Familiar with Institutional Review Board (IRB) processes and requirements (Preferred)
  • Strong ability to set priorities and manage work flow to fulfill objectives and meet goals according to deadlines in a high-paced work environment. (Required)
  • Spanish-language fluency (written and spoken) (Required)
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as member of a team, across cultures and internally within a diverse and dynamic institution. (Required)
  • Knowledge of organizational development and the role of nonprofit organizations in community ecosystems. (Required)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to collect and relay information with accuracy and diplomacy; ability to produce well-written, professional communications including interim and final reports, case studies, grant proposals/reports, policy briefs, and more. (Required)
  • Skill in organizing materials, information and people to optimize efficiency and to minimize duplication of efforts. (Preferred)
  • Ability to produce research tools, field notes, thematic identification, data summaries, and other written materials. (Required)
  • Demonstrates excellent judgment and discretion in the handling and maintenance of sensitive and/or confidential information/data. (Required)
  • Available to work evenings and weekends (Preferred)
  • Excellent computer skills (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SPSS, etc.) (Required)

  • Bachelor's Degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training (Required)
