This role will support product development initiatives for Optum Health Solutions and Behavioral Health. The ideal candidate will provide strategic and tactical direction to effectively design, solution and execute against one or more transformation projects. Projects will focus on the development or optimization of a product or capability. Candidate will be responsible for all phases of the product development process, from ideation to pilot and/or scale. Accountable to review and act on project performance and influences product and capability portfolio to improve competitive position.

The candidate must have demonstrated business success and a proven track record of solid product management, transformation, or development leading to the creation of growth generating opportunities and sustainable, scalable solutions.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead vision, strategy, and execution of product development projects
  • Leverage voice of the customer and market insights to build new or enhance existing products and capabilities
  • Question the status quo and anticipate customer needs to develop solutions
  • Identify opportunities to streamline and optimize the internal and external member/provider experience
  • Exhibit solid understanding of business strategies and financials
  • Develop solid relationships and effective communication best practices with matrix partners
  • Partner or provide subject matter expertise for areas including processes, staffing, financials, technology, member digital, and other various impact areas
  • Utilize effective communication and influencing skills to gather feedback, expertise and buy-in from non-clinical and clinical stakeholders
  • Develop concept and detailed design specifications, accounting for ideal member/provider experience and stakeholder requirements
  • Develop and manage product budgets, timelines, and resource allocation
  • Set, monitor and analyze performance metrics to ensure ongoing success and identify areas for improvement
  • Support development of sales and marketing materials
  • Lead and/or support ad hoc projects, including time-sensitive requests
  • Navigate through technical requirements while simultaneously distilling and communicating complex subject matter to stakeholders
  • Prepare and communicate program level content and status reporting to key constituents, stakeholders, governance counsels and executive team
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to identify opportunities for partnerships and integration opportunities

Required Qualifications:

To be considered for this position, applicants need to meet the qualifications listed in this posting.

  • 8+ years of product development or management
  • 5+ years of health care experience
  • Client and executive presentation experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Proven track record of successfully developing and launching new products or capabilities within the medical or behavioral benefits space
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven ability to think and act strategically, and as well as execute tactically with bias toward action
  • Proven ability to distill complex information into simple frameworks/recommendations and create executive facing material and reports

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in developing or managing solutions within the Medicaid, Medicare, Payer and/or Employer markets
  • Solid background and/or understanding of the healthcare benefits and/or clinical care management experience
  • A proven track record of building, deploying, delivering, and successfully navigating within a large, complex organization
  • Proven self-starter with the demonstrated ability to transform businesses through product and capability development
  • Proven to effectively cope with change, can shift gears comfortably, can decide and act without having the total picture, can demonstrate ability to act swiftly and can handle risk and uncertainty
  • Proven to accurately scopes out projects, sets objectives and goals, develops schedules and resource assignments, measures performance against goals, and evaluates results
  • Proven effective formal presentation and facilitation skills in a variety of settings
  • Proven solid analytical abilities, organization, and project/process management skills
  • Proven solid interpersonal skills; Brings an ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Proven excellent negotiation, problem solving, planning and decision-making skills
  • Proven excellent follow through, attention to detail, and time management skills
  • Proven excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with senior leaders/executives as well as cross functional teams at all levels
  • Demonstrated ability to bring products to market
  • Demonstrated ability to create clarity and focus in ambiguity
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver a business plan that can effectively organize, plan, direct, manage, and maintain profitable products throughout their life cycle
  • Demonstrated ability to work nimbly across multiple projects, with fast-paced, iterative product development cycles

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
