We are seeking to hire a Linux (RedHat Certified) Administrator to join our team working on a new multi-year award we have within a large Federal Gov t Agency in Washington, DC. This role is 100% remote, but candidates located in the DC area are preferred, just in case there is an occasional need to go into an office to meet with the team.

Being a US Cit is REQUIRED for passing the Security Clearance to work on this program (ability to pass Public Trust at minimum).

This position pays a strong salary package with full benefits (including choice of healthcare plans, dental, vision, life insurance, 3 weeks PTO, 11 Paid Federal Holidays, and a matching 401k).

An option for working on an hourly rate is also available for those not needing a full benefits package.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and troubleshoot Linux systems on a day-to-day basis.
  • Integrate Linux Systems (currently, RHEL 7/8) into a primary Windows environment (workstations & servers) where authentication, authorization, and accounting actives are controlled by Active Directory with CA PAM.
  • Provide administrative access based on group security, applied with least privilege and other permission access management techniques.
  • Ensure patches are maintained across a diverse Linux environment (e.g., RHEL 6/7/8, CentOS, Oracle Linux, etc.) in a heavily automated manner, where possible.
  • Configure new Linux systems for customer use and ensuring that initial configurations meet required enterprise baselines & controls (e.g., proper agents installed, proper configs, etc.).
  • Ensure that already-provisioned Linux systems are kept in compliance with baseline requirements & ever-changing enterprise policy (e.g., equivalent to Group Policy in the Windows realm for ongoing compliance updates).
  • Develop an operating system lifecycle plan with integration of DoD STIGs and other recommended security standards.
  • Integrate Linux systems with other enterprise tooling (e.g., ACAS, Splunk, SolarWinds, Backup systems, etc.).
  • Monitor all solutions integrated via a centralized alerting system (SolarWinds).
  • Certify log management and forwarding to a single repository (Splunk).
  • Other duties as assigned and required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Experience with RHEL Linux RHEL 7/8, Oracle Linux, and Satellite 6.8 or higher
  • Knowledge of Red Hat version 7 or 8 (RHEL 7/RHEL 8) with the ability to engineer, install, administer, and maintain.
  • Familiarity with large scale operational environment (monitoring of servers (CPU s, memory, disk utilization, and application integration), patching, and maintenance).
  • Requires large scale troubleshooting experience (cross platform)
  • Ability to respond at all hours to operational requirements.
  • Ability to work outside normal hours during routine maintenance windows or unexpected system outages.
  • Knowledge of Linux scripting Languages such as: Python, Perl or Shell
  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) or Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)

Desired Skills:

  • Host Based Firewalls on Linux Servers.
  • Linux Experience hosting Oracle Databases.
  • Experience with Apache web server configuration and management
  • Management, deployment and troubleshooting of Java and Tomcat applications in a Linux environment.
  • Experience analyzing and evaluating the security of new and existing IT systems and the procedures to protect information system assets from intentional or inadvertent modification, disclosure, or destruction.
  • Experience analyzing and evaluating the design and operating effectiveness of Information technology and security controls that are in place.
  • Knowledge and understanding of operating systems, networks and services.
  • Experience evaluating security solutions to ensure they meet security requirements for processing classified information.
  • Manage changes to system and assesses the security impact of those changes.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of best practices, trends related to information security.
