The Role

At GM tooling reliability, we are focused on analyzing failure modes in the complex environment of aluminum die casting. We develop innovative and creative solutions to solve complex problems with production dies. As a tooling reliability engineer at General Motors, you will have the opportunity to champion strategies for solving die failures, create uptime initiatives, track die steel components for life cycles, and collaborate with production teams. You will work cross functionally with diverse groups to create and implement world-class, reliable solutions to improve die life and mean time to repair.

What You'll Do

  • Focus on driving die steel failure analysis and improvements.
  • Maintain die steel component life cycles.
  • Implement engineering changes.
  • Manage dies and components in Maximo.
  • Determine appropriate levels of spare components to achieve manufacturing schedules.
  • Engage with production to meet customer demand of products.
  • Utilize technology to detect, model, interpret, develop, analyze and maintain die cast tooling.
  • Develop presentations for Senior Leadership on tooling changes.
  • Grow to understand the plant manufacturing systems including the Global Manufacturing System, production processes, engineering change orders, process control requirements along with other systems to ensure effective decision-making and sustainable control of processes.
  • Support the tooling department in die repairs.

Additional Description

Your Skills & Abilities

  • Bachelor's of Science degree with a major in engineering or related sciences (ie Metallurgy, etc.).
  • 2+ years experience in manufacturing engineering.
  • Experience in root cause analysis and variations (RedX, Six Sigma, OpEx, etc.).
  • Die casting in an aluminum or similar foundry.
  • Basic knowledge of automotive manufacturing.
  • Computer applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Auto CAD, Word).
  • Demonstrated ability to execute projects and engineering changes.
