Job Summary
University Analytics & Institutional Reporting ( UAIR ) is seeking an intermediate or senior-level Data Engineer to join our Data Warehouse Team. This role will participate in and may lead the design, build, testing, implementation and maintenance of data transformation pipelines. The incumbent will follow our department's general design guidelines and approaches, but have wide latitude for independent judgment and extensive opportunity to contribute to the ideas and knowledge that shape our strategies and direction forward.
This is a remote position with the potential for some onboarding and infrequent meetings in-person. Incumbents are required to live and work in the U.S. Remote work arrangements are subject to change at any time and will be reviewed annually.

The UAIR office houses a transformational group of data professionals that turn complex university data into information trusted by leadership to drive strategic decisions, generate official university figures, and support the data needs of academic campus as a whole.

Responsibilities

- Research source data structures, relationships, content and quality. Support requirements discovery.

- Design, build, implement, and maintain data transformation pipelines, processes and reporting structures formatted to support data science, strategic reporting, master data sources, enterprise integrations, point-in-time snapshots and more.

- Help automate and manage data quality audits and correction processes.

- Write complex SQL queries to support analytics needs.

- Develop and maintain data and process documentation, including data flow diagrams, data concepts, keys, definitions, process steps, etc.

- Share your ideas and knowledge, be open to learning from others, and grow with the team as we explore new ideas, methods and tools in our journey of continuous forward progress.

Minimum Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in area of specialty (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) and 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area.

- Proficiency using Oracle SQL or similar programming language to query and manipulate data, create and manage database objects.

- Solid understanding of relational database concepts.

- A problem solver at heart, energized by a data challenge, ready to independently dive in and uncover the source of an issue or explore new data.

- Strong attention to detail with an analytical mindset, willing to work in the weeds, able to see and support the big picture.

- Professional interpersonal skills, will thoughtfully and productively collaborate with and support the contributions of a variety of technical and non-technical groups and individuals.

Preferences

- Advanced Oracle SQL skills to query and manipulate data, create and manage objects.

- Experience and acumen to move complex data transformation projects forward under minimal supervision.

- 6 or more years of experience in any of the following areas:

o Relational database or data warehouse programming/development with an aptitude for translating business needs into sound technical solutions.
o Data reporting and analysis, building queries from large relational databases to audit data, perform ad hoc analysis, generate standard reports, with a strong understanding of the back-end structures that facilitate reporting.
o Higher education administration with broad and deep knowledge of student, faculty, HR or finance data and processes, or experience managing data in an institutional research (IR) setting.
o Business systems analysis with a strong understanding of requirements analysis, data and process flows, liaising with functional and technical groups, testing, auditing data, troubleshooting and issue resolution.

- Experience with PeopleSoft data, Tableau, Lucid Chart, and/or similar ERP systems, visualization and diagramming tools.

- A Master's degree in MIS or related field.
