Position Summary

Parker Lord, APS Division is seeking an Engineer III to join our Structural Adhesives Global Technology Team in Cary, NC. This role will be the technical lead on one or more product development projects of medium to high complexity. This role is in a laboratory environment, working on short to medium term product development project for the global business. The role is expected to successfully commercialize new products that meet the customers' and manufacturing plants' expectations. The incumbent will collaborate with Parker Lord business personnel, external customers, manufacturing teams, and other technology teams around the global.

Responsibilities
  • Technical lead on product development projects of medium to high complexity. Successful projects would commercially launch and meet customers' and manufacturing plants' expectations.
  • Engage often with team members in business, manufacturing, global regions, and technology.
  • Communicate verbally and in writing regarding various topics to external customers, management, manufacturing facilities, peers, and stakeholders.
  • Able to evaluate current chemical products and identify areas of improvements regarding safety, quality, and performance, or cost.
  • Follow the safety, ethics, and quality procedures for the company and the department, while also leading their teams to do the same.
  • Some travel expected, typically 10% of the time.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Required Education: Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Engineering, Material Science or similar. Masters Degree or PhD preferred.
  • Required Work Experience: 5 years of relevant experience. Masters Degree with 4 years of relevant experience. PhD with 0 years of experience. Preferred experience in Research and Development of polymeric materials.
  • Strong knowledge of polymer materials, adhesives, and/or coatings.
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to participate effectively in cross-functional and global project teams.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient in statistical methods and experimental design.
  • Proficient across several business and technical software packages.
  • Have experience in laboratory practices and exercise an excellent level of chemical laboratory safety awareness.
  • Impact: Track record of completing medium complexity projects. Leads high complexity projects or multiple projects of various complexity. May also lead portions or a major project as a team member. Independently lead DFMEA. Leading a trial at a critical customers.
  • Technical Knowledge: Applies advanced technical principles, theories, and concepts. Contributes to development of new principles and concepts within Parker Lord. Advances knowledge of products/chemistry, industry, detailed customer application, troubleshooting, failure analysis, or detailed value proposition elements. A knowledge resource for their team. SME in one or more subjects.
  • Problem Solving: Track record of implementing technical solutions to a wide range of highly complex problems. Solutions should generate intellectual property (patents, trade secrets) for Parker Lord. Solutions are imaginative, thorough, practical, and consistent with organizational objectives. Advanced design and execution of any parameters. Advanced data analysis, report generation. Expert understanding and utilization of engineering tools, methods, processes (FMEA, process audits, troubleshooting, etc)
  • Ability to work with limited direction toward predetermined long-range goals, and objectives. Assignments are often self-initiated. Determine and pursue courses of action necessary to obtain desired results.
  • Ability to represent the organization as a prime technical contact on projects. Interacts with senior external personnel and experienced personnel in technical development.
