Our Tech Services Systems Engineering & Operations Team is seeking a Cloud Operations Engineer III. In this role, you will provide comprehensive support for Jack Henry information systems, addressing operating system-level issues, obsolete technology remediation and tracking, incident resolution, server builds and configurations, DNS management, and Microsoft Server feature management. You will troubleshoot operating system (OSI issues and identify problems beyond the server OS stack, such as network communication issues. This new role aims to enhance current processes by introducing automation, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CI/CD pipelines, streamlining operations, and expanding support for Jack Henry's cloud-based offerings.

This position offers the flexibility to work remotely from anywhere in the United States. It includes participation in an on-call rotation and may require occasional travel for meetings, training sessions, and conferences.

What you'll be responsible for:

  • Manage and support internal server infrastructure and development and testing environments, and pipelines.
  • Manage and support public cloud production, testing and development environments, and pipelines.
  • Maintain operational software and tooling E.g. Jira, Confluence, Jenkins, Octopus Deploy, Apache Tomcat etc.
  • Design and implement Site Reliability and Disaster Recovery processes.
  • Build and support company's growth into the public cloud services and Infrastructure as Code.
  • Develop strong relationship with the DevOps team(s) to assure best practice implementations.
  • Implement automation across both public and private cloud data centers.
  • Maintain processes, tools, and documentation in support related to operational environments.
  • Develop processes and procedures regarding new client onboarding activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


What you'll need to have:

  • Five years of experience in cloud operations, engineering, network engineering, or system administration.
  • Proficiency with Azure and Google Cloud Platform.
  • Skilled in Terraform and GitOps.
  • Skilled in scripting languages such as BASH, Python, and PowerShell.
  • Solid understanding of networking and system administration.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with strong organizational abilities. Self-motivated, hands-on, and entrepreneurial.
  • Ability to participate in an on-call rotation every 7-8 weeks, working your normal shift and being available for after-hours issues.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time for meetings, training sessions, or conferences.


What would be nice for you to have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science.
  • Relevant certifications in system administration/engineering, network administration/engineering, or cloud administration/engineering.
  • Extensive experience with NoSQL databases, including MongoDB and Cassandra.
  • Proficient in using configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet and Chef.
  • Experience with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles, including but not limited to Service Level Objectives (SLO) and Service Level Indicators (SLI), TOIL reduction, Automation and Root Cause Analysis.
