RIVANNA is seeking an experienced Data Scientist to contribute to the rapid growth of our emerging medical device company. You will work within a talented team of professionals as we strive to achieve our mission of improving global human health. The ideal candidate has prior successful experience managing large imaging datasets and analyzing multi-variate data to drive business decision-making. This is a hands-on multidisciplinary role in which the right candidate will work closely with our engineering, R&D and clinical teams to analyze complex ultrasound data, develop predictive models, and contribute to the continuous improvement of our products. The Data Scientist will be responsible for overseeing the data analytics projects related to clinical and development datasets.

Requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and interpret large datasets generated from ultrasound imaging to identify trends, patterns, and insights to drive product development decision-making.
  • Support the development of machine learning models to improve ultrasound image quality, detect anomalies, and assist in diagnostics.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and provide actionable insights.
  • Implement data processing pipelines to handle real-time and batch ultrasound data.
  • Create visualizations and dashboards to communicate findings and support clinical decision-making.
  • Stay current with the latest advancements in data science and ultrasound technology.
  • Work with external statisticians to power appropriately clinical studies and analyze results.
  • Develop and implement statistical models and algorithms to solve complex problems.
  • Collaborate with other teams to define data requirements and ensure data quality.

Requirements:

  • PhD in Data Science, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience with machine learning, deep learning, and data analysis, preferably in the medical imaging or healthcare industry.
  • Strong statistical background.
  • Proficiency in Python or R, and experience with machine learning frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of image processing techniques and algorithms.
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud) and big data technologies.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate complex findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with ultrasound imaging data and healthcare datasets.
  • Knowledge of medical device regulatory requirements and standards (e.g., FDA, CE) and AI technology validation.
  • Background in signal processing or biomedical engineering is a plus.
  • Experience with imaging and diagnostic test analysis such as Dice score calculations, ROC, and AUC curve creation.
