Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of the registrar is to assure that complete and accurate data are collected and maintained for all injured patients admitted to Mayo Clinic Rochester (and trauma patients in the SE and SW regions) meeting the inclusion criteria for the trauma programs (adult and pediatric). The registrar must work with numerous disciplines to ensure complete case findings. The registrar must keep current with all changes and requirements of the American College of Surgeons National Trauma Data Bank (NTDB) and Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP) in order to comply with their standards. The registrar will assist with the performance of epidemiology disease-related research including primarily the study of trauma for the Mayo Trauma Center and, when applicable, the Minnesota Trauma Registry affiliated with the state trauma program.
Qualifications
Requires minimum of an Associate's degree (AAS) in Health Information Management (HIM) or other health related field with strong emphasis on anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
Understanding of coding and abstraction of data with data entry experience are required. PC skills, both keyboarding and experience with computer applications, and evidence of ability to work collaboratively and professionally with others, at all levels of responsibility. A medical record background is preferred. Previous Experience working with cancer or trauma registries is preferred. Certification as a Specialist in Trauma Registries (CSTR) is preferred.

- participate in and pass the most recent version of the Association of the Advancement of Automotive Medicine’s Injury Scaling Course (AIS)
- participate in a trauma registry course
- participate in an ICD-10 course, as well as a refresher course every 5 years.
