Your New Role…

As a CNN Image+Sound Production Services member, you will contribute to creating a great work environment where you can grow in your career and be part of a high performing team that delivers quality journalism for CNN worldwide. Our team provides 24/7 production and editorial expertise to support CNN’s storytelling.

The Image+Sound Media Specialist acts as the point of contact for CNN’s incoming content. Media Specialists will collaborate with partners and make effective decisions as to where content should be ingested and held for easy access. By working with teammates, they are expected to meet the evolving news demands. With the nonstop news cycle, a Media Specialist will focus on editorial or technical responsibilities to ensure that all requests are met while keeping encoder or server space at an optimal level. To be an effective Media Specialist one is expected to collaborate and communicate professionally, check files for quality audio and video, and know when to escalate issues.

Your Role Accountabilities…

Key responsibilities can include:

  • Transcoding media into various formats to meet technical specifications for edit.
  • Diagnosing web ingest issues quickly to determine if a file can be transcoded through manual means.
  • Preparing post-production edit sessions, assisting delivery of finished content, and maintaining production server integrity.
  • Confirming that files have audio, video, and keyframes.
  • Managing the recording space of the various cities as assigned.
  • Partnering with newsgathering and show teams to proactively record content where applicable.
  • Completing metadata records accurately for each asset for improved user search across CNN Worldwide.
  • Supporting colleagues in handling recording and image requests when needed.
  • Communicating professionally with others.
  • Collaborating regularly with I+S Production Technology teams.
  • Escalating issues to other team members, engineering and management
  • Working in a fast-paced 24/7/365 newsroom.

Qualifications & Experience…

  • Two (2) years of experience in news or video production.
  • Solid new awareness.
  • A strong curiosity for current and historic events.
  • Knowledge of how newscasts and documentaries are put together; what is required to get video on the air or online.
  • Familiarity of how content management systems work.
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Proven organizational skills.
  • Customer Service experience
  • Effective written and oral communication skills, especially to translate technical video production challenges to editorial users and vice versa.
  • Ability to successfully work under deadline pressure and in a team effectively even with those you may not ever meet in person.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a remote world via applications like Slack, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom.
  • Ability to remain focused for long periods of time.
  • A motivation to grow and adapt to a rapidly changing business
  • Command of the English language. Other language skills are highly valued.
  • Bachelor’s degree (typically in liberal arts such as journalism, English, political science) or similar demonstrated on the job experience.
