TITLE: Senior Software Engineer - Application Development

LOCATION: New York City (hybrid) or Fully Remote in the United States

SALARY: $120,000 - $160,000 (based on NYC, will be adjusted for geo)

The Role:

We are seeking a senior software software engineer to join our Application Development team. This team is responsible for the technical vision and development of Canoe s next-generation web applications. In this role you will lead other engineers and cross-functional teams that design, develop and ship mission-critical products and features powering Canoe s continued hypergrowth and leadership in the alternative investments industry.

What You ll Do:

  • Lead cross-functional, dynamic project teams responsible for developing new functionality primarily on a Vue / Typescript / Kafka / PHP / Laravel / Postgresql stack
  • Translate business requirements for new products and features into technical designs that enable efficient implementation by you and your teammates.
  • Seamlessly integrate new solutions into Canoe s distributed, event-driven architecture through careful design of Kafka events, payloads and consumers.
  • Review and provide constructive feedback on technical designs and code produced by your teammates.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of Canoe engineering through proactive brainstorming, presentation of ideas and mentoring.


What We re Looking For:

  • You have proven experience leading others in a technical leadership or senior engineering role to efficiently deliver business value
  • You have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • You are a full stack software engineer with experience designing and implementing robust applications at scale using one or more of the following frameworks: PHP/Laravel, Ruby On Rails or similar
  • You have experience with event-driven, data-centric architectures built on relational databases, microservices and Kafka.
  • You can normalize a data schema as easily as you can design an event payload, while steering the team away from common pitfalls.
  • You apply clean code standards and SOLID principles in your day to day work, and provide constructive feedback guiding others to do the same
  • You are comfortable in a highly collaborative agile environment

Preferred:

  • Shipping SAAS products in a startup environment
  • AWS
  • Fintech and/or alternative investment industry experience
