AV System Design Engineer - Job Description


The AV Systems Design Engineer provides pre-sales and post-sales support to Sales Engineering and the Operations department during the course of a project. The AV Systems Engineer will be responsible of design, engineering, and final quality control of the project when commissioned.

  • Works closely with the Sales Design Engineer to ensure accuracy and completeness in the design of a proposed project.
  • Participates in pre-sale discussions and project turn-in meeting.
  • Works with AVT Sales and Engineering departments to create a full set of audio, video, control signal flow and elevation drawings that adhere to established AVT standards.
  • Reviews CAD and Visio packages created by drafter for accuracy and make required changes to product required for providing desired functionality for the client, incorporating any changes that might have arose since proposal creation stage.
  • Create a list of MIPS products and cables required in the design for accurate product ordering required to install the system.
  • Attends required design/project meetings deemed necessary for the job as well as required departmental meetings.
  • Work with AVT sales department to assist with creation of required change orders internal or external, during the course of project implementation.
  • Assists in closing out of AV installation in conjunction with Field Engineer and Project Manager.
  • Researches new products and technologies for use in innovative and efficient audiovisual designs.
  • Provides leadership, mentoring, and training to other junior employees within the engineering department.
  • Protects confidentiality of information, including client list and company processes and procedures.
  • Promotes a continuous quality improvement effort to enhance the services provided to clients and other AVT staff by demonstrating positive attitudes and actions through a display of courtesy, congeniality, cooperation, initiatives, sensitivity, and professionalism.
  • Handles customer facing meetings and presentations.
  • Performs needs analysis for AV system.
  • Conducts sales calls with AVT Account Managers if required; participates in developing and delivering team-based presentations for new products and solutions.
  • Directs, reviews, and/or approves project design changes when necessary.
  • Consults or negotiates with clients to prepare project specifications and system design.

Basic Knowledge of the following key products:

Extron, AMX, Crestron, Cisco & Polycom, BiAmp, ClearOne, QSC, Shure, NewTek, Sony

Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of Visio and AutoCAD software.
  • Strong math aptitude, logical analysis skills, and thorough signal flow skills are required.
  • Solid interpersonal skills that enhance a team environment.
  • Ability to problem solve independently with a sense of urgency.
  • Excellent PC Skills: Word, Excel and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Must communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
  • Detail oriented and organized, with the ability to multi-task and effectively manage multiple projects within tight timeframes.

Education/Experience

  • BA/BS in related field
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in the audio-visual field in a design capacity role.
  • Avixa accredited CTS certification. A CTS-D is a plus. AV design engineers are encouraged to attain their CTS-D certification through our training program.
  • Additional manufacturers certifications are offered by all manufacturers listed above
