Part-time Deskside Support Technician in Washington, DC

The Opportunity:

VSO is searching for a motivated deskside support technician to join our team on a part-time basis in Washington, DC. This individual will work with end-users to respond to requests for technical assistance during regular business hours, and provide occasional assistance to the VSO team on other shifts. This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable real world IT experience backed by the expertise of a remote team.

Tasks may include:

• Responsible for configuration, maintenance, monitoring, and support of the overall workstation, server, and network infrastructure.
• Install, configure, test, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot Windows systems and peripherals, and end-user adjacent network devices such as wireless access points.
• Perform analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of end-users technical problems and recommend and implement corrective hardware and/or software solutions.
• Receive and respond to incoming tickets, documenting all steps taken to resolve issues in a timely and thorough manner.
• Accurately document instances of hardware and software failure, repair, installation, and removal, including root cause investigation.
• Recommend, schedule, and perform server OS improvements, upgrades, and repairs.
• Support development and implementation of new server projects and new hardware installations.
• Assist in developing long-term strategies and capacity planning for meeting future computer hardware needs.
• If necessary, liaise with third-party support and server equipment vendors.
• Aid in the development of business continuity and disaster recovery plans, maintain current knowledge of plan executables and respond to crises in accordance with business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
• Provide guidance to junior members of the team as required.

Qualifications:

• Working knowledge of Windows and user workstations.
• Familiarity with TCP/IP network protocols, firewall management, and security solutions.
• Working technical knowledge of infrastructure and supporting technologies such as SAN or NAS storage, Active Directory/Global Catalog.
• Knowledgeable of backup/restore solutions and anti-virus solutions.

• Must be within driving or walking distance of Washington, DC and willing to work onsite
• Must be willing to work part-time
• Please note that pursuant to a government contract, this specific position requires U.S. citizenship status
