Job Description
Salary: $90,000 - $150,000 (Compensation dependent on education, skills, and relevant experience)

Founded in 1999, Access Laser is a leader in designing and manufacturing high-end CO2 lasers. We are a rapidly growing company, experiencing double-digit revenue growth in recent years. We provide leading-edge gas-discharge-excited laser technologies to global industries in the medical, semiconductor, electronic, manufacturing, and scientific development R&D markets. We focus on creative designs that match our customers applications and solve difficult problems with innovative solutions. We strive to provide a challenging and supportive environment where team members are encouraged to go beyond ordinary thinking and challenge the normal with the truly ingenious. Our team is our greatest asset and supporting their career development is the greatest investment we can make in our future.

In October 2017 we became a member of the TRUMPF Group, the world s largest manufacturer of lasers and laser systems. Although we have retained the agility and flexibility of a small company, both our business and our employees now have access to new opportunities for growth.

Access Laser Company is seeking an RF Engineer to work as part of a small, dedicated engineering team to design prototypes and products for application-specific RF and analog circuits and systems for CO2 laser products.

Primary Duties:

  • Simulate and model RF, analog, and mixed-mode circuits, with a focus on high power amplifiers (multi-kilowatt) with frequencies in the range ~ 10 s-100 s MHz.
  • Develop Proof of Concept (POC) designs, covering requirements definition, circuit simulation, schematic capture, PCB layout, lab testing, troubleshooting, optimization, and documentation.
  • Drive Product Development, including executing POC steps, conducting DFx (Design for Manufacturability, Assembly, etc.) iterations, ensuring design compliance, performing rigorous verification and validation, running accelerated lifetime tests, and producing detailed documentation.
  • Contribute to all phases of design reviews, including conceptual, preliminary, and critical stages.
  • Prepare test reports and procedures for prototypes, first articles, V&V (Verification & Validation), DFx, and related activities.

Secondary Duties:

  • Support production by designing test fixtures, developing test automation, and writing test procedures.
  • Provide engineering and technical support for the sustaining of all products released for manufacturing:
    • Address design changes and quality issues.
    • Manage component-related issues, including end-of-life, quality, shortages, and long lead times.
    • Mitigate risks through testing and validation for alternate component sourcing.

Standard Job Requirements:

  • M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 3 years of experience, or B.Sc. with more than 5 years of experience.
  • Ability to work under general supervision, following established procedures. Work is reviewed for technical soundness and overall adequacy.
  • Frequent use and application of technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques, particularly in areas such as circuit theory, RF concepts and applications, RF power amplifier design, synthesizers, PLLs, power oscillators, mixers, and switching power supplies.
  • Experience with EDA tools for PCB layout (e.g., Altium).
  • Experience with RF simulation software (e.g., ADS, AWR).
  • Knowledge or experience in designing for EMC or similar regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency with lab test equipment, including vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, power meters, oscilloscopes, etc.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

Highly Desirable Additional Skills/Experience:

  • In-depth understanding of physical phenomena involved in high-power and high-frequency (10 s-100 s MHz) circuit design.
  • Laser industry experience
  • Experience in designing for EMC or similar regulatory requirements.
  • knowledge of microwave engineering concepts (e.g., distributed circuits, transmission lines).
  • Frequent interaction with inter-organizational and external customer contacts, representing the organization in providing solutions to complex technical issues associated with specific projects.
