Bloomberg has one of the world's largest private global networks and our team plays a part in keeping that network infrastructure secure. At the core of our network infrastructure are firewalls and ACLs which help enforce different boundaries of trust. Our network needs to be kept up to date to meet its evolving connectivity requirements and prevent unwanted traffic from getting in.

As a part of this team, you will be responsible for automating the deployment lifecycle of firewall and ACL configuration to our global network. In doing so, we allow external customers connecting into Bloomberg to access their data as well as internal application teams to get the connectivity they need. What makes our role uniquely challenging is that we must balance the speed at which we rollout changes with the risk of moving too quickly and potentially disrupting the global markets.

By joining our team, you will have the opportunity to learn about the challenges of network security at scale and come up with solutions to solve them. We have plenty of opportunities to research, design, and implement solutions to orchestrate different parts of the policy deployment lifecycle. We are looking for engineers who enjoy writing software, collaborating on ideas, and want to make an impact at Bloomberg.

We'll trust you to:
  • Lead projects by taking responsibility for the full software development lifecycle, from gathering requirements from stakeholders to deploying and maintaining software
  • Work with your peers on the team to come up with ideas and design solutions that are well communicated to stakeholders
  • Mentor some of our junior engineers in software development practices and processes

You'll need to have:
  • 4+ years of experience working with an object-oriented programming language (C/C++, Python, Java, etc.)
  • A Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, similar field of study or equivalent work experience
  • An understanding of Computer Science fundamentals such as data structures and algorithms
  • Honest approach to problem-solving, and ability to collaborate with peers, stakeholders and management
  • The ability to take ownership and responsibility of issues and handle them effectively to resolution
We'd love to see:
  • Experience building Python APIs using Django, FastAPI, Flask, etc
  • Familiarity building UIs in React
  • An interest in network security
  • Experience in network automation/orchestration
  • Experience with L7 firewalls and router ACLs
