With a strong focus on pushing the boundaries of what's possible, we are seeking top-tier talent that adds intrinsic value to our organization.

Role Overview

The Director of System Administration and Cybersecurity will lead the operations of a data center running Dell servers using Windows, providing on-site support to ensure seamless and secure operations. This role requires deep technical expertise, particularly in cloud technologies (primarily Azure), and proven leadership in managing a team of system administrators, network engineers, and cybersecurity professionals. The Director will be responsible for overseeing the stability, security, and efficiency of both on-premise and cloud-based infrastructure, with a focus on disaster recovery, system backups, incident management, and change control.

Responsibilities

  • System Administration and Data Center Operations:
    • Oversee the administration, configuration, and troubleshooting of Dell servers in a Windows environment, ensuring maximum uptime and performance.
    • Provide on-site support for data center operations, managing physical and virtual server infrastructure.
    • Lead efforts to monitor, maintain, and optimize system performance, including proactive issue detection and resolution.
    • Oversee system backups, and disaster recovery processes, and ensure that these protocols are regularly tested and updated.
    • Manage system patching, updates, and routine maintenance to minimize vulnerabilities and downtime.
    • Implement change control processes to ensure that updates, patches, and system modifications are well-documented and executed without disrupting services.
    • Collaborate with facilities management to ensure the physical integrity of the data center, including power, cooling, and security measures.
  • Cloud Administration and Operations:
    • Lead the administration and management of cloud infrastructure, with a focus on Microsoft Azure services.
    • Ensure that cloud-based systems integrate seamlessly with on-premise infrastructure, maintaining consistent performance and security standards.
    • Manage the migration of applications and data from on-premise systems to cloud environments, optimizing resource usage.
    • Monitor and optimize cloud costs, scalability, and security, implementing best practices for cloud governance and compliance.
    • Troubleshoot cloud-related issues, including networking, storage, and compute performance.
  • Cybersecurity and Information Security:
    • Develop and enforce strong cybersecurity policies and procedures, ensuring all systems (both on-premise and cloud) are secure from external and internal threats.
    • Regularly conduct risk assessments and vulnerability scans to identify potential security weaknesses.
    • Oversee incident management processes, responding to and resolving security breaches, network issues, or other critical system incidents in a timely manner.
    • Lead efforts to establish robust disaster recovery and business continuity plans, ensuring minimal data loss and system downtime in the event of an incident.
    • Stay updated with the latest cybersecurity threats and trends, ensuring the data center follows industry best practices and compliance standards (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001, SOC 2).
  • Team Leadership & People Management:
    • Manage a team of system administrators, cloud engineers, and cybersecurity professionals, providing training, mentoring, and performance management.
    • Foster a culture of collaboration and knowledge sharing within the team, promoting the adoption of new technologies and best practices.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including development (DevOps), networking, and executive leadership, to align data center operations with broader organizational goals.
  • Project and Change Management:
    • Oversee the planning and execution of data center and cloud infrastructure projects, ensuring they meet timelines, budgets, and quality expectations.
    • Implement and enforce a robust change control process, ensuring that system changes are logged, tested, and communicated effectively to minimize risks.
    • Lead system upgrades, cloud migrations, and the introduction of new technologies, coordinating with other departments and external vendors as necessary.
  • DevOps Integration (Strong Plus):
    • Collaborate closely with DevOps teams to ensure that development pipelines are optimized for both on-premise and cloud-based systems.
    • Foster the integration of DevOps methodologies, such as CI/CD (Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment) within the system administration and cybersecurity frameworks.
    • Provide infrastructure support for automation tools use by DevOps teams, ensuring secure and scalable environments for development, testing, and deployment.

Required Skills & Education

  • System Administration and Data Center Operations:
    • 10+ years of hands-on experience managing Dell servers in a Windows environment.
    • Strong expertise in on-site data center operations, including physical server management, virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V), and system monitoring.
    • Proficiency in disaster recovery, backup technologies, and business continuity planning.
    • Experience in implementing and managing change control processes to ensure system stability and accountability for all changes.
    • Cloud Administration:
    • 5+ years of experience managing and supporting cloud infrastructure, particularly Microsoft Azure.
