Essential Functions

  • Promotes sales of drilling fluids laboratory services to customers
  • Participates in industry sponsored organizations to promote Newpark’s goals
  • Evaluates new technologies in the area of drilling fluid’s systems and additives
  • Directs laboratory test procedures to identify and resolve customer problems
  • Ensures laboratory can meet all business needs and remains an Industry-Leading facility by maintaining all equipment, resources and technical standards at the forefront of industry capability
  • Works closely with Operational personnel and customers to ensure lab activity is aligned with business and technology priorities, standards and goals
  • Promotes, supports and publishes technical papers, documenting company technical achievements
  • Manages overall budgets and capital expenditures for laboratory
  • Sets goals and objectives for research, service in the field, training, product QA/QC and product development in the laboratory
  • Provides technical support, oversight and guidance to all functions in the laboratory
  • Participates in customer presentations
  • Provides technical support to company projects worldwide
  • Interacts with Business Unit Leaders and Technical personnel to assess training, product and fluid systems requirements
  • Allocates resources to meet training and product needs
  • Responsible for, and mentors others on the chemical hygiene plan and the current laboratory safety standards
  • Updates Senior Management on laboratory initiatives, future prospects, etc.

Education & Experience Requirements

Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Math, Physics, Geophysics or educational equivalent. 12 years related experience with 6 years in a managerial position. Superior knowledge and extensive working experience with a variety of complex Technology projects. Expert level knowledge of product lines and process. Demonstrated effective leadership and management skills. Superior analytical skills. Advanced verbal and written communication skills. Thorough knowledge of principles, concepts theories, and practices of applicable discipline. Superior problem-solving and project management skills. Experience managing other managers and senior managers.

Position Summary

Directs multiple or all of the following disciplines: Field Services, R&D, Analytical, Reservoir, Quality, Mechanical, Petroleum or Chemical technology. Manages a given scope of work and the direction, control and utilization of a staff of professionals and support personnel. Recognizes customer problems and provides answers and/or solutions of a more technical nature. Requires technical knowledge of the company's products. Assist in customer technical presentations. Training to internal & external clients on product specific technology, science, tools and/or equipment. Oversees the execution of projects. Ultimately responsible for meeting objectives within the assigned areas of responsibility. Plans, conducts and directs research and / or development work on complex projects which may require the origination and application of new and unique approaches. Handles special projects, as assigned.
