Department Overview

PG&E IT is a unified organization composed of various departments which collaborate effectively to plan, deliver, and operate high quality technology solutions. Grid and Control Center technology department is in the process of embarking major transformation journey implementing ADMS (Advanced Distribution Management System), DERMS (Distributed Energy resource management system) and supports & maintains legacy applications within Electric distribution & transmission and Gas area to meet identified business goals and priorities.

Position Summary
  • Leads a team that develops new applications, designs, and installs new IT technical architecture and infrastructure systems, or enhances existing systems.
  • Assembles the project team and utilizes the provided cost and scheduling tools to define the scope, budget, and resource needs, and controlling other project variables. Functions as a liaison between IT and the Business Client. Acts as the go-to person that represents the entire project from the planning through to the deployment stage.
  • Manages Control Center portfolio related to program financials, resource loading, portfolio risks & issues, customer escalations and manage adhoc requests and priorities.


PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. We would not anticipate that the individual hired into this role would land at or near the top half of the range described below, but the decision will be dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.

A reasonable salary range is:
Bay Area Minimum: $144,000.00
Bay Area Maximum: $244,000.00

California Minimum: $137,000
California Maximum: $232,000

Job Responsibilities
  • Accurately and consistently forecasting project resource, material and contract costs within a standard PG&E tool(s)
  • Assessing project performance and implementing changes as necessary to ensure the projects remains within specified cost, schedule, scope and quality objectives
  • Clearly defining and communicating roles, responsibilities and expectations for all members of the project team
  • Communicating individual project roles and expectations
  • Communicating status of all projects to stakeholders and management
  • Conducting and site visits as necessary
  • Conducting project kick-off meetings
  • Coordinating any required contract work within defined PG&E policy
  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge and technical competence
  • Developing and maintaining a productive working relationship with project sponsors, vendors and key clients
  • Developing and maintaining up-to-date detailed project schedules and work plans
  • Developing metrics, procedures, objectives and methods to assess project progress while using established standards and quality objectives
  • Driving all project related tasks to completion
  • Ensuring all project team members have the tools and training necessary to perform effectively
  • Exercises independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance with broad scope and high complexity
  • Exercising independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance with moderate scope and complexity
  • Functioning in a process oriented environment
  • Gathering, defining and documenting project requirements
  • Help mentor less experienced PMs
  • Independently planning all associated work to meet project goals
  • Monitoring critical project milestones, and identifying ways to resolve schedule issues
  • Obtaining and defining staffing requirements and forming project teams
  • Preparing all project documentation for closure, storage, and possible auditing activities, ensuring technical accuracy
  • Providing direction and leadership to project management analysts and schedulers
  • Recording, tracking and communicating issues, risks, changes, and status reports within a PG&E standard tool
  • Resolving problems of project specific scope within procedural guidelines
  • Responsible for leading one or more projects typically between $100,000 - $10,000,000
  • Responsible for the concurrent management of two to four small to medium to moderately complex projects or one very large program in excess of $5M annually


Qualifications

Minimum:
  • 8+ years experience managing one or more complex IT product/software development cycles/projects
  • Experience with IT professional service agreements and materials logistics
  • BA/BS in Computer Science, Business, Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Project Management Professional (PMP)


Desired:
  • 3-5 years Grid & Control Center Technology experience
  • 3-5 years Electric Utility experience
  • Experience managing large budgets ($100k to $10M+)
  • Advanced and expert understanding of project management principles and methodologies
  • Workforce planning and resource management skills
  • Ability to function and manage in a matrixed environment
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and
  • Skill inventory and database experience
  • Financial Acumen, team player, makes agreements
  • Proficiency in negotiation and risk management
  • Scrum Master experience
  • Strong financial acumen with 5+ years experience with budgets exceeding $5M
  • Experience working in a PMO environment as Project Lead or Project Manager for highly complex projects
  • Certification from an accredited program (e.g. Stanford Advanced Project Management Certificate Program, etc.) or equivalent collaboration skills
  • Skilled in using the following programs - HP Project and Portfolio Management Center (PPMC), IT Methodology, Microsoft Office Suite
