The Department of Radiology has an outstanding opportunity for a Full Time Research Scientist

The Research Scientist/Engineer 1 contributes to the growth and success of the Department of Radiology by executing the mission and vision.

This position will perform basic research duties to support ongoing projects in the Integrated Brain Imaging Center (IBIC) related to aging and neurodegenerative disease. This includes utilizing neuroimaging, neuropsychology, and/or neuroscience techniques and procedures to collect and evaluate data for the lab.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Imaging Duties:
  • Qualify research participant candidates by completing phone interviews and collect brief neuropsychological data/MRI scans, and EEG from human subjects from subject populations.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and administer scanning and testing of human subjects - this includes administering and/or training subjects on cognitive tasks.
  • Prepare consent forms and progress reports for review as well as human subjects applications.
  • Administer psychological/neuropsychological or other test batteries.

    Research Analysis Duties:
  • Perform image transfer processing, data quality assurance, and analysis.
  • Prepare data from structural MRI, DTI, fMRI, PET, EEG and other imaging approaches for analysis.
  • Write computer programs dedicated to analysis tasks.
  • Use neuroimaging and statistical software packages to prepare results and write methodology reports.
  • Write documentation of IBIC data analysis workflow and other experimental practices.
  • Assist PIs in preparing scientific presentations and manuscripts.
  • Attend and participating in IBIC lab meetings and official functions as well as lab meetings for individual project PIs.
  • Coordinate and manage work on several research projects with several PIs.
  • Perform preprocessing and pipelining of functional and structural MRI and DTI data, and PET data; prepare and analyze data for presentation; work at the command-line in Linux using IBIC computer software for neuroimaging processing and analysis (FSL, AFNI, in-house software tools).
  • Review processed data for quality, and implement quality assurance protocols to clean or omit data from analyses.
  • Assist with modifying computer scripts dedicated to analysis tasks.
  • Prepare figures for presentations and manuscripts and assist in manuscript and grant preparation - this includes writing methodology reports.
  • Prepare documentation of IBIC data analysis workflow and other experimental practices.
  • Help create and maintain RedCAP and Excel databases for study data; enter MRI, diagnostic, and neuropsychological data into these databases.
  • Perform literature searches and read literature or conduct literature surveys in neuroscience projects as necessary.
  • May train and guide other scientists and technicians requiring assistance with analysis or analysis tools.
  • Complete related assigned tasks.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology or Neuroscience or related field, and one year one year of research lab experience.

    Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum requirements.

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Proficiency with Matlab, Python, and Bash
  • Working knowledge of and experience with basic computer applications (i.e. Microsoft Office products) and operating environments (Linux, MacOS, Windows)
  • Experience with human imaging methods and analysis.
  • Proficiency with R programming.

    Supervision:
    This position reports to Dr. Thomas Grabowski in the Radiology Department.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Schedule is normally 8a to 5p, M-F, but is not always fixed and workload does vary. The incumbent's first responsibility is to complete tasks rather than keep to a fixed schedule. Flexibility in schedule and intensity of work is necessary.
  • Work is suitable for intermittent telework/hybrid schedule
