HJF is seeking a Technical Lead who will serve as the Principle Investigator and is responsible for long-term research strategy development, independently designing research projects of considerable complexity and difficulty. Supervises projects and investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions, products, and problems. We are looking for an innovator who is focused on overseeing and expanding HJF's Research Portfolio.

This position will be in support of Air Force Research Laboratory, Human Effectiveness Directorate (AFRL/RH), Continuing Human Enabling, Enhancing, Restoring, and Sustaining (CHEERS) at Wright Patterson AF Base in Dayton, OH. The goal of this contract is to provide a comprehensive strategy for advancing science and technology (S&T) efforts from basic research to technology maturation and transition. The USAFSAM aims to ensure readiness among Airmen, Guardians, and Medics in various environments by leveraging expertise in Aerospace and Operational Medicine. The CHEERS effort will facilitate study efforts on novel concepts and R&D contracts aimed at maturing specific technologies to appropriate Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs).

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research that integrates biological and cognitive technologies to optimize Airman capabilities across multiple domains.
  • Drive innovation across a wide-range of technical disciplines including En Route Care, Force Health Protection, Human Performance, Women's Health, and/or Cognitive Neuroscience.
  • Leads the planning, execution, and oversight of research portfolio.
  • Trains and supervises technical and scientific staff.
  • Demonstrates detailed knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories.
  • Designs and implements experimental protocol.
  • Coordinates and prepares new grant and funding applications.
  • Makes major contributions to scientific literature and conferences.
  • Prepares publication-ready manuscripts.
  • Finalizes reports and reviews for submission to scientific journals and patent applications.
  • Makes scientific observations, maintains detailed workbooks/documentation, and ensures documentation fulfills generally accepted professional/industry standards.
  • Collects, processes, and interprets experimental data.
  • Serves as in-house and outside consultant.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
  • May include budgetary responsibility to include plan/forecast, prepare, approve, monitor.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Direct Supervisor : Direct authority to make decisions on the following: employee hiring, disciplinary action, starting salaries and merit increases; conduct employee performance evaluations and directs work activities.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Doctoral Degree required OR applicable education and years of experience.
  • More than 10 years experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Previous strategic, operational and tactical expertise supporting the Air Force preferred
  • Research background in the areas of En Route Care, Force Health Protection, Human Performance, Women's Health, and/or Cognitive Neuroscience.
  • Strong background in strategy and business development
  • Broad understanding and capabilities in multiple areas
  • Knowledge of applicable highly complex scientific procedures and techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and supervise others.
  • ship and the ability to obtain and maintain a T3/Secret Clearance

Physical Capabilities

  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.

Compensation

  • The annual salary range for this position is $120,600-$160,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
