Join Our Team as a Power Hardware Engineer Intern!

Are you passionate about underground power hardware engineering? S&C Electric Company is seeking a dynamic individual to coordinate our Underground Engineering function. As an Power Hardware Engineer Intern, you'll be crucial in ensuring smooth operations and supporting our diverse team.

S&C is the specialist in high-voltage switching, protection and control, providing products for the electric power industry since 1911. The Underground Power Hardware Engineering group is responsible for the integration of power hardware subsystems in bringing new products to market. In this position, you will report to the Assistant Manager - Product Engineering in the Underground Power Hardware group.

You will be teamed with engineers in the Underground Power Hardware group and be tasked with sample preparation, leading tests, component analysis and design, among other engineering tasks related to projects and product support. The position requires a basic understanding of both electrical power and mechanical engineering principles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Solve design and manufacturing related problems through use of fundamental engineering calculations and theory.
  • Modify existing designs or develop new designs of components and subsystems, under the direction of senior engineering personnel collaborating with a team of engineers and designers.
  • Conduct studies and make analysis, interpretations, and conclusions under guidance and supervision.
  • Coordinate and perform product testing under guidance and supervision.
  • Prepare technical reports for internal customers.
  • Work within a team environment including interacting with other engineering and design professionals and members of the global sourcing, production planning, manufacturing, and assembly groups.


What you'll Need To Succeed:

Job Requirements ( To select this job at a minimum you must have the following):
  • Must be in good standing as a student at the Bachelor's or Master's degree level at an accredited university majoring in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related major and returning to school full-time at the end of the internship.
  • Comfortable commuting to and working onsite at S&C Electric HQ in Rogers Park, Chicago IL.
  • Ability to work Full-Time in Summer 2025 for a minimum of 10 weeks.
  • Excellent communication skills and basic math/bookkeeping skills.
  • Familiarity with Microstation, AutoCad and/or other CAD software.
  • Computer proficiency in Windows, Word, Excel.
  • Ability to work in teams and handle multiple tasks in a dynamic work environment.
  • Competency in Microsoft software products (Word, Excel, etc).
  • Preferred, but not required: Previous internship/co-op experience.
  • Proficiency in the use of CAD systems, specifically 3D modeling.
  • Experience with Dimensioning and Tolerancing, including GD&T.
  • Very good interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize workload to complete multiple projects and meet milestones.
