Senior People Specialist
Reporting to the Director, People & Culture, the Senior People Specialist oversees people driven functions in People & Culture including, but not limited to; disability support both short-term and long term; WSIB claims; Employee Assistance Programs, Employee Benefits and sign-up for RRSP/Pension programs; Labour Relations; Occupational Health & Safety and People & Cultures' KPI's and analytics.
Description of Responsibilities:

Short Term and Long Term Disability Support:
  • Support employees who are absent from work due to short term disability ensuring that appropriate documentation is gathered for both initial leave and for subsequent return to work re; accommodations if required. W with union representative (as required), 3rd party disability support administrator and employees.
  • Support employees through long term disability application process (if applicable)
Employee Assistance Programs:
  • Curate and manage all EAP information and provider emails and ensure dissemination to all employees through appropriate communication channels and platforms.
  • Ensure all employees are made aware of the Employer EAP programs and supports.
  • Gather employee EAP utilization data and make recommendations to Senior Leadership on future case usage for EAP programs based on analysis.
Employee Benefits & RRSP s/Pension Plan:
  • Provide all employees with information on organizational RRSP/pension programs, and sign-up procedures.
  • Provide twice yearly financial data roll-up on RRSP/pension program employee utilization rates.
Occupational Health & Safety:
  • Provide leadership and guidance to Occupational Health & Safety Committee
  • Ensure organization is meeting all obligations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Liaise (as required) with Ministry of Labour representatives regarding organizational H & S questions, audits etc.

Labour Relations:
  • Support Leadership in growing their knowledge, understanding and application of Collective Agreement, and provide them advice, direction and support and coaching in all labour relations matters.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with union representatives.
  • Manage the grievance process including research and preparation, drafting responses and providing support and expertise in arbitration process.
  • Support Director, People & Culture in the Collective Bargaining process including drafting of proposals, bargaining, and Collective Agreement implementation.
  • Conduct investigations into employee relation matters and provide recommendations to Director, People & Culture.
People & Culture KPI s, Balanced Score Card and Analytics:
  • Gather People & Culture data regarding Key Performance Indicators and Balanced Score Card Indicators for the purposes of analysis as well as development of quality improvement plans (QIP s) to reach pre-determined targets

Preferred Qualifications:

Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor s degree in Human Resource Management, Organizational Development, Industrial Relations or a related field and 3-5 years of experience working as part of a human resources team. (Equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience may be excepted.)
  • Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) designation.

Experience & Knowledge:
    • 3-5 years of experience working as part of a human resources team.
    • Strong knowledge, understanding and application of the ESA, LRA, OHSA and Ontario Human Rights Code.
    • Experience in creating positive and productive labour relations with unions including experience managing grievances, arbitrations and collective bargaining and coaching leaders.
    • Experience in supporting employees through disability including short-term disability, return to work, and workplace accommodations.
    • Experience in the development and implementation of a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion program.
    • Experience in developing and implementing HR polices and procedures.
    • Strong knowledge and ability to work in HRIS.

Skills:
    • Strong demonstrated track record of coaching and supporting employees.
    • Strong emotional intelligence skills re; relationship management, social awareness, self-awareness and self-management.
    • Well developed thinking skills i.e. divergent and convergent thinking and crystallized and fluid intelligence.

Working Conditions:
  • Location: Hybrid Work arrangement (3 days in office) available
  • Hours: Full-time, with occasional evening or weekend work required for special events or needs.
