Job Summary

The Center for Survey Research seeks to hire a Web and Database Developer to support our IT needs by developing, testing, and maintaining web applications (front-end and back-end), database applications, and other research technology applications for our survey projects and internal management needs.

Department-Specific Responsibilities
  • Develops and maintains high-performing websites and web applications, including building and implementing back end (APIs, databases) and front end (interfaces, web-based tools) solutions, for our surveys and client interfaces (internal and external).
  • Develops and maintains databases with an emphasis on performance, security, and stability; deliver and report on data through the development of stored procedures, and views; create and tune database queries and tables.
  • Designs, develops, tests, and supports other survey-related technical applications, including working in statistical, survey administration, and data visualization programs.
  • Tests technical applications (web, database, and others) for performance, functionality, and quality assurance, either directly or indirectly by providing instruction to other staff, while developing testing documentations.
General Responsibilities
  • Develops high-performing websites and web applications, including building and implementing back-end (APIs, databases) and front end (interfaces, web-based tools) solutions.
  • Consults with stakeholders and/or web administrator to review existing websites/webpages; develops new functionality and/or codes necessary web changes.
  • Develops data structures, web tools and programs while taking into consideration multi-browser and mobile compatibility and performance.
  • Documents website and web application development efforts (changes, new functionality, issue/problem resolution).
  • Tests website and web application performance and functionality, performs quality assurance checks, and fixes bugs accordingly.
  • Acts as a liaison between design/creative teams and stakeholders to ensure optimum functionality, performance, accessibility, scalability, and security of websites and web applications.
  • Ensures that all protocols used in the development and maintenance of websites are up to date and compliant with university policies and standards; researches and stays up-to-date on new industry web standards, emerging media technology, UX/UI design/philosophy, and accessibility standards.

EDUCATION

Required
  • Bachelor's degree (preferably in Computer Science or related field)
WORK EXPERIENCE

Required
  • 2 years of full stack web development or related experience
Preferred
  • 2 years of web and database development or related experience
  • Strong experience with web and database applications including object-oriented programming languages such as ColdFusion or C#; web frameworks such as ASP.NET; JavaScript (jQuery); Microsoft SQL Server
  • Experience with statistical software such as R, SPSS or Stata; data visualization tools such as Tableau or PowerBI; survey software programs such as Qualtrics or REDCap

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Advertised Salary

$47,132.80 - $68,827.20 per year based on education, experience, and internal equity within the responsibility center.
