This role is for a UX Research Scientist (Or a MM/Quant Leaning UXR) within Reality Labs. This team is the inputs UXR team-- they work on different input methods for devices such as hand movement, voice interactions, etc., across hardware devices. Questions they ask are things like "If you had to use this wrist band to interact with a product (Orion or Quest, etc) do you have a good experience? The sample sizes for these studies are typically 50-100 participants and a lot of the measures they use are very heavily survey based. There is an opportunity for some qualitative research as well because as part of the surveys they often collect open ended questions like "tell me more about your experience" so that would be helpful to have in this role.
A typical day would be working fairly closely with another researcher, coordinating with XFN including design & PM and engineers on what they want to test about input in the next homework or study. Understand what is going to be tested for users, design a survey around that (it could be quite lengthy like a dozen or so questions to really probe a certain feature they are testing) design the survey, and write up the study instructions for participants. People are using the devices at home or in office so it's not a moderated setting. A couple of weeks later the data comes in and that needs full analysis, generating learnings and insights and then typically a small deck or report is prepared that really summarizes the main learnings for XFN. This is a two weekly cycle and everything tends to be overlapping so once one study is designed and sent out you're typically working on the next one. Hands on research design and data analysis much less on the ground data collection and moderation. Work closely with the PM who will use the data to make decisions. Be able to provide a POV and interpret the data for people so it makes it easier for XFN to say "X is the conclusion so Y is the correct course of action".
