Join LS Technologies, a Tetra Tech company, as a Senior Analog and Digital Voice Engineer, where you will utilize your expertise in communication protocols, voice and data operations, and test automation design. This role involves hands-on testing, system troubleshooting, and the development of test plans to ensure the reliability and effectiveness of our communication systems.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform analog and digital voice and data operations, specifically signaling on 2-wire and 4-wire circuits.
  • Configure, integrate, and provide troubleshooting support for various communication equipment and systems.
  • Work with communication protocols and technologies, including but not limited to RS-232, RS-422, Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM), Synchronous Optical Networking (SONET), General Purpose Interface Bus (GPIB), Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN), and Frame Relay.
  • Operate and manage communications test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, signal generators, protocol analyzers, transmission impairment measurement sets, oscilloscopes, RF power meters, power quality testers, and communication system analyzers/testers.
  • Design and implement test automation processes using computer-controlled test equipment to improve testing efficiency.
  • Develop and conduct test and evaluation activities, including creating test plans, procedures, and reports, and participate in product/system/service testing and demonstrations.
  • Engage in the development, review, and verification of system interfaces, including Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and Interface Requirements Documents (IRDs).
  • Review system and product-level specifications to assess requirement validity and testability, providing solutions based on analysis.
  • Establish, maintain, and operate testbeds, ensuring they meet physical, interface, and installation requirements.
  • Apply knowledge of the Open System Interconnection (OSI) and TCP/IP reference models, focusing on the physical, data link, network, transport, and application layers.
  • Utilize VoIP protocols and standards such as Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), Media Gateway Control Protocol (MGCP), and Real-Time Protocol (RTP) for testing and evaluation purposes.
  • Handle VoIP test equipment, including Call Manager, Abacus, Impairment Emulators, Voice Quality Testers, and other relevant tools.
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.
  • A Master's degree in a related field may be substituted for a bachelor's degree and 3 years of experience.
  • A Ph.D. in a related field may be substituted for a bachelor's degree and 7 years of experience.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 20 years of relative experience.
  • Proven experience with analog and digital voice and data operations, particularly in signaling on 2-wire and 4-wire circuits.
  • Familiarity with communications equipment/system configuration, integration, and troubleshooting support.
  • Experience in communication protocols and technologies, such as RS-232, RS-422, ATM, SONET, GPIB, TCP/IP, ISDN, and Frame Relay.
  • Proficiency with communications test equipment, including spectrum analyzers, signal generators, protocol analyzers, and other related devices.
  • Strong background in test automation design and implementation using computer-controlled test equipment.
  • Knowledge of test and evaluation processes, including the creation and review of test plans, Verification Requirements Traceability Matrix (VRTM), test procedures, and test reports.
  • Experience with setting up, maintaining, and operating testbeds.
  • Understanding of the OSI and TCP/IP reference models.
  • Experience with VoIP protocols/standards, such as SIP, MGCP, and RTP.
  • Hands-on experience with VoIP test equipment.
Work Requirements:
  • Work location: Hybrid work arrangement, with a combination of remote and on-site work as needed.
  • Work Hours: Standard business hours, with flexibility for project demands.
  • Travel: Minimal travel required for testing and evaluation activities.
  • Physical requirements:
    • Extended Computer Use: Regular use of computer terminals for testing, data collection, and analysis.
    • Mobility: Ability to navigate different work environments and testbeds.
    • Dexterity: Manual dexterity and visual acuity for operating test equipment and performing detailed testing tasks.
    • Sitting/Standing: Ability to sit for prolonged periods and occasionally stand to conduct tests.
