About the Position
The Innovation Engineer III will work with a small innovation and R&D team to identify, develop business cases, pilot, and implement industry leading automation, robotic, and emerging solutions for the supply chain industry. Effectively use technologies such as low-level automation, 2D and 3D machine vision, optical devices, specialty conveyors, robotics, sensors, safety systems, and execution systems such as WCS/WES. The Innovation Engineer III will work on testing and piloting complex automation and systems orchestration to successfully bring new solutions to market.
Functions
- Execute all phases of a pilot project including concept and research, costing, creating business cases/ROI analysis, and submitting funding requests and then managing the pilot project using standard PMO processes, concluding with a documented case study, transition plan and training documents.
- Cross-train as required in robotic programming, computer vision, autonomous navigation, object recognition, IoT (Internet of Things), and other emerging technologies.
- Understand the automation technology market, robotics market, and emerging technologies and develop engineered solutions to meet these customer improvement goals.
- Assist with automation, robotic and mechanical engineering on solution design in support of sales
- Create Functional Specifications documents and source solutions.
- Successfully deliver pilot projects with regards to customer satisfaction, schedule, time, and budget with little guidance.
- Manage the vendor relationships associated with pilot projects and the Innovation Lab.
- Ensure we meet and exceed our customer's expectations through superior POC and Piloting.
- Collaborate with external partners to assist in the design or development of robotic or automation solutions including supporting software.
- Coordinate and assist with other engineers in prototype development as needed.
- Complete all administrative tasks/paperwork in timely manner.
- Work with management to prioritize projects on macro level; ability to prioritize individual tasks on your own
- Develop thorough documentation and training for trainers, end users, operations.
- Attend training and become certified in applicable technologies or programs as required.
- Oversee the physical innovation warehouse lab installing, maintaining, testing and orchestrating solutions and conducting demos, training, and tours.
Qualifications
- Bachelor s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or related Engineering with an emphasis in Automation, Innovation, Emerging Technologies or related field required.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in the industry and/or on automated projects required.
- Proven experience and knowledge of automation and robotic solutions in logistics and supply chain.
- Intermediate knowledge of mobile platforms, industrial robots, emerging technologies, automation solutions, fixed and flexible, and warehouse, yard, labor management and safety systems.
- Experience in WCS (Warehouse Control System) and/or WES (Warehouse Execution Systems).
- Effective customer presentation skills.
- Comfortable working in a lean Agile Team.
- Project management capability (formal training not needed).
- Strong and effective communication skills.
- Ability to analyze engineering problems and develop creative solutions.
- Ability to multi-task while maintaining progress toward completing overall goal.

Travel Requirements
- This position is expected to travel approximately 25% - 50%.
