JOB SUMMARY
The laboratory of Dr. Richard Voit, in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology, at UT Southwestern seeks to recruit a highly motivated individual who is interested in performing research at the intersection of hematopoiesis, cancer biology, and gene therapy to join our team as a senior research associate and laboratory manager. We are studying how perturbations in the transcriptional regulation of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) leads to bone marrow failure and acute myeloid leukemia (AML). We are also developing gene therapy approaches for inherited bone marrow failure syndromes. We use CRISPR perturbation, lentiviral transduction, and targeted protein degradation in primary human HSCs, bone marrow samples from patients with bone marrow failure and AML, and relevant human cell models to elucidate mechanisms of hematopoietic cell fate decisions and uncover targetable vulnerabilities in leukemia.

The selected candidate will work on experimental research projects directly with the laboratory principal investigator and other lab personnel (50% effort) and will spend the remaining 50% effort assisting with organization, management, and maintenance of the laboratory. A highly motivated and productive individual may get the opportunity to lead an independent research project within the laboratory.

A PhD is preferred, preferably with formal study in molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, chemistry, or computational biology. The candidate must be a responsible individual with strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Experience with mice or culture of blood cells is not required, but enthusiasm for learning such approaches is essential. Individuals will have an opportunity to learn and use techniques in CRISPR editing, flow cytometry, next-generation sequencing, xenotransplantation, and quantitative PCR. Additionally, experience with computational biology could be helpful.
