Duties

This position is located under the Office of Science and Technology, Forensic Science Laboratory in Location Negotiable After Selection, United States.

The Salary listed reflects the rest of U.S. scale and, if applicable, will be adjusted to meet the locality pay or cost of living expenses of the duty location upon selection.

In This Position You Will Serve As a Fingerprint Specialist And Leading Technical Expert In The Forensic Science Laboratories Within The Office Of Science And Technology Performing The Below Duties:

  • Serving as the senior technical authority on fingerprint examination for the organization and providing guidance and direction on technical matters up to and including the Senior Executive Service (SES).
  • Evaluating and/or implementing new technology and scientific equipment for adoption or acquisition by Laboratory Services; planning and leading the development of new or modified analytical procedures to improve the methods used in forensic evidence analysis.
  • Developing training for new analysts.
  • Assessing developments in the field of friction ridge analysis and adapting guidelines and methodologies in response.

This is a non-bargaining unit position.

MOBILITY PLAN: New employees hired pursuant to this vacancy announcement must sign a mobility agreement. Qualifications

You qualify for the GS-14 grade level if you possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-13 performing duties such as:

  • Training and providing guidance to other fingerprint specialists and technicians in their technical duties
  • Evaluating or implementing new technology and scientific equipment
  • Initiating and developing new or modified analytical procedures
  • Preparing latent print technical papers, reports and documents for scientific publication

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Background Investigation: You will be required to undergo a background investigation prior to employment. Security Clearance: You will be required to obtain a Top-Secret clearance for this position.
