Common Pantry is seeking a full-time Food Programs Manager. This role leads the supervision, supply and operations of Common Pantry’s food programs, including grocery distribution, hot lunch, Produce Day, and the organization’s new nutrition program. This position is overseen and directly supervised by the Executive Director.

Job Description

Nutrition Program Management (40%)

-Oversee the planning, evaluating, and operational management of Common Pantry’s nutrition program, which includes the following components:

  • Prepared Meals & Samples: Prepared and packaged onsite
  • Cooking Classes & Workshops
  • Recipes & Nutrition Resource Handouts
  • SWAP (Supporting Wellness at Pantries): Stoplight color-ranking system within the pantry shopping area to identify foods based on nutritional density
  • Opportunity for development of 1-on-1 Nutrition Counseling

-Collaborate with the team to market programs to guests, volunteers, donors, etc.

-Manage, evaluate, and forecast nutrition program budget and spending

-Document nutrition outcomes and data to evaluate the effectiveness of nutrition program (ensuring community feedback is prioritized), make recommendations to improve, and deepen program

Inventory/Internal Operations (50%)

-Assess and implement operational models in response to volunteer, client, and staff safety and capability

-Maintain a master data collection and documentation system, prepare monthly data presentations to inform staff and board of directors, extract data for staff, donors, etc.

-Supervise operations team of 3 staff members and contract procurement driver

-Lead management of overall food programming inventory by placing order with food bank, managing the food rescue program, and determining if internal purchasing is needed from established partners

-Coordinate hot lunch program by crafting and scaling recipes, supply ingredients and materials needed, prep ingredients, organize team of volunteers, and coordinate day-of prep and service

-Oversee Food Rescue Hub program, supervising one procurement driver to rescue food from 6-7 retailer partners and deliver to Common Pantry and three other pantry partners weekly

-Act as lead Greater Chicago Food Depository (GCFD) staff liaison, facilitating yearly program contracts, attending trainings and webinars, communicating order scheduling, etc.

-Lead special programming during November-December season with local Jewel-Osco partners to recruit, organize and lead volunteers for receiving, transporting, and distributing holiday meals

-Monitor and maintain food safety practices and standards across food programming

-Assist with annual food inventory audit

-Assist with coordinating food drives, in-kind donations, food rescue processes in conjunction with Community & Operations Coordinator as needed

-Collaborate with Executive Director and staff to identify strategic growth of organization

Communications (10%)

-Participate as a member of the communications committee attending meetings, collaborating on social media posts, assisting with marketing material development and usage, etc.

-Build and maintain positive relationships with clients and address any issues or concerns they may have
