The Mission Systems Operations Contract (MSOC) at NASA Johnson Space Center is seeking an engineer with exposure to and/or knowledge in the IT, network, and platform systems area within the Mission Control Center Systems and Training Systems. The selected applicant will also be involved in conducting impact analysis for any engineering modifications, installations, and maintenance of space mission systems in both the test environment and production environments, conduct systems analysis, engineering planning and modifications, as well as design. The applicant will work in a team environment, and must possess good interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written. The ideal candidate will have a strong drive to apply and continually update their skill base, is team oriented and with good problem-solving skills.
Successful candidates must be able to apply for and successfully receive and maintain security clearance per eligibility requirements.

Education:
B.S. in Engineering (including but not limited to: Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering), Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline.

Responsibilities may include:
Managing the appropriate configuration baseline of operating systems, software applications, and security compliance including threat detections and investigations
Investigate new technology and provide recommendations on system improvements and life cycle planning.
Assist in the design of network systems
Support integration of engineering hardware into various environments
Address and resolve technical issues as needed
Report on technical work progress, issues, impediments, etc.
Assess and interpret requirements of systems and applications in relation to hardware, software and operational needs
Translate NASA customer operations concepts and functional requirements into engineering design details
Identify software and hardware components and assist in acquisition of equipment and materials
Support project level planning activities and provide project schedule inputs
Be able to communicate effectively with internal team members and external NASA customer
Communicate and coordinate with team leader, as well as MSOC management as needed
Comply with the MSOC contract and NASA/JSC/MSD direction, policies, and procedures
Make improvements and suggestions to advance the overall engineering processes in place

Desired Qualifications:
Some experience in Windows and/or Linux Operating System
Familiar in at least one high-level scripting language is a plus
Familiar with commonly used networking principles, concepts, practices, and procedures
An understanding of network systems
Understanding of serial and network data communications protocols and standards
An understanding of voice, video, and timing systems is a plus
Familiarity with IP-based Voice and Video system architectures is a plus
An understanding of Data Comm systems is a plus
Good problem solving and analytical skills
Strong communication skills inclusive of low level technical details with peers and summary level to management
