Our Network Operations team works around the clock running United's global operation, safely, reliably and efficiently. From dispatching and routing our fleet to coordinating with maintenance line planning and crew scheduling, this team makes caring connections with our internal customers and ultimately, United's customers. From pushback to landing, the Network Operations team is the eyes and ears on the ground no matter where in the world your United flight takes you.

Network Operations Control (NOC)

The Network Operations department helps us run a safe, reliable airline, and includes careers in aircraft routing and dispatching, crew scheduling, air traffic control and more.

Job overview and responsibilities

The Manager Operations Strategy & Analytics will own the development of highly analytical tools and data products that support NOC/ SOC decision making and post event analysis. The manager should be able to understand the NOC business, the needs of the partners and use this understanding to craft, build and activate analytical solutions / tools / reports addressing those needs. The manager will also be responsible for adhoc analysis / projects in fields such as irregular operations decisions, Aircraft SWAP, ATC, dispatch and Fuel Efficiency. This role interacts with various employee levels in multiple divisions to address operation related issues.
  • Understand various business needs related to NOC/SOC. Lead in-depth discussions with partners to envision and craft the most appropriate report/tool to address those needs
  • Design and build complex queries to pull and join large data sets from various data tables using SQL/Python or Foundry. Combine and filter data to distill useful information relevant for business needs
  • Build interactive tools / dashboards and reports that address NOC/SOC and Fuel Efficiency needs. Examples include identifying critical departures, Compliance with fuel Policies and APU burn
  • Analyze the data / tools / dashboards outcomes to collect valuable and actionable information
  • Lead and facilitate discussions with partners (including senior leadership) about analysis findings and opportunities with the goal of identifying and driving actions. Build related engaging project presentation decks
  • Project management and follow up with other teams on successful implementation of solutions. Following through with partners ensuring the goals of the tools were achieved
  • Lead and work with data engineering, digital technology and other teams to ensure the availability and reliability of required data tables. Fix and enhance existing infrastructure to achieve business needs
  • Management of direct reports/dotted line reports, comms, reviews, Knowledge Skills and Abilities Sharing/Development, coaching, etc. ...
  • Support ad hoc data reporting requests from various partners

NOTE: This position is based at the CSC-Willis Tower, located in Chicago, IL. and considered as a hybrid work-schedule with 3-days in-office with presence at our Arlington Heights facility (AHNOC) on a needs basis. However, that may evolve with the needs of the company.

Qualifications

What's needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):
  • Bachelor's degree or related experience
  • Degree in Business, Quantitative Field or other relevant field
  • 5+ years of experience in Coding and Data Analysis
  • 3+ years of experience in project management and continuous improvement
  • Expertise in Foundry, Python, SQL and relational databases
  • Significant exposure to interactive data visualization tools such as SpotFire and Tableau
  • Strong presence and the ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously with focus on results
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills to all employee levels with the ability to influence in a matrix organization
  • Strong data mining, data analysis and problem solving skills
  • Advanced analytical skills with ability to examine data to produce important recommendations, reports and metrics
  • Strong skills in MS Office tools - advanced Excel, Access and Power point
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction
  • Ability to travel as needed
  • Must be willing and able to travel at least 10% domestically visiting our Hubs (2 business day a month)
  • Must be willing and able to work at the CSC-Willis Tower in Chicago, IL as well as the Arlington Heights facility in Arlington Heights, IL
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
