The Mechanical Engineering group at SMRT comprises HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, process, and commissioning. We work alongside SMRT's architectural, structural, electrical, site, and interiors groups from project inception through design and construction to advance our client s vision. We are committed to making a direct and positive impact on the built environment by designing for carbon reduction, resiliency and user wellness. Our designers, engineers, commissioning agents, and project managers are also involved in project pursuits and business development. As a commissioning agent you will learn and lead primary third-party commissioning projects from start to finish.

SMRT s Commissioning Group has an immediate opening for a full-time Commissioning Agent. Depending on experience and location, the opportunity exists to work independently or remote from our Portland, ME, Bangor, Maine, Andover, Massachusetts, or Schenectady, New York office locations.

What our Commissioning Agents Do:

• Execution of standard building commissioning processes for new and existing construction as found and ASHRAE and ACG Guidelines
• Writes commissioning plans and specifications, based on established standards and project requirements.
• Conducts third party design reviews on Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Building Envelope drawings for project owners
• Conducts submittal reviews
• Witnesses, directs, evaluates and documents field commissioning activities, (construction observations, start-up and close out verifications).
• Conducts on-site meetings with construction team members. Writes and distributes minutes and establishes action items for each team member.
• Conducts functional verification process for MEP/FP systems
• Writes and compiles commissioning reports and related documentation based on established standards.
• Participates in marketing activities, including conference attendance, presentations to prospective clients, project interviews

Skills you need to be successful in this role:

1. Experience in the operation and troubleshooting of HVAC systems, power, lighting, communications, fire, and energy management control systems and security systems.
2. Understand commissioning, re-commissioning, and retro-commissioning process.
3. Ability to work independently and as part of a technical team.
4. Excellent problem-solving and communication skills, written and oral.
5. Possess an understanding of the construction process, documentation, (drawings and specifications) codes and industry standards.
6. Ability to self-lead with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization.
7. Ability to analyze data
8. Familiarity with design, installation, planning and maintenance of systems
9. Willingness to Travel
