Timberlane, founded in 1995 designs and manufactures a complete line of super premium build to order, exterior window shutters and garage doors. Products are sold throughout the US and abroad, via a company owned direct sales model. The company has approximately 55 full-time employees and operates out of a 78,000 SF facility, located in Montgomeryville, PA. The company is privately held by the founder and current CEO, Rick Skidmore.
Position Overview
The controller will have primary day-to-day responsibility for planning, implementing, managing, and controlling all financial-related activities of the company. This will include direct responsibility for accounting, finance and budgeting. There will be a strong focus on cost accounting to support the company’s manufacturing operation, as well as pricing strategy. We are looking for a smart, thinker-doer, who thrives working in a smaller company and fast-moving environment. You will collaborate closely with various departments to ensure accurate financial information, provide strategic insights, and contribute to the company's growth. You will report directly to the President, with a dotted line to the CEO. This is a full-time, onsite position.

Key Responsibilities
- Financial Reporting: Prepare timely and accurate financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements. Provide insights into financial performance and trends, highlighting key areas for management attention.
- Manufacturing Cost Accounting: Lead and manage all aspects of manufacturing cost accounting, including monitoring and analyzing production costs, variances, and cost drivers. Implement and maintain effective costing systems to provide accurate insights into product costs and profitability.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop annual budgets and forecasts. Monitor and assess actual performance against budgeted targets, identifying areas of concern and recommending corrective actions.
- Inventory Management: Oversee inventory accounting, including valuation, reconciliation, and adjustments. Work closely with operations to optimize inventory levels and minimize carrying costs.
- Month-end and Year-end Close: Lead the month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial data. Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and accruals.
- Internal Controls: Establish and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with financial regulations and accounting standards.
- Financial Analysis: Provide insightful financial analysis to support decision-making, evaluate investment opportunities, and assess the financial impact of various business initiatives.
- Sales Tax: Manage 50 state sales tax compliance and reporting, ensuring accurate and timely filing of sales tax returns. Stay updated on sales tax regulations and changes, implementing necessary adjustments to processes and systems.
- Human Resources: Manage the company’s administrative HR and payroll functions. Oversee employee benefit plans, with emphasis on optimizing a competitive, yet cost-effective benefits package. Prepare and process bi-weekly payroll.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field. CPA or CMA certification a plus.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in financial accounting and analysis, with a proven track record in cost accounting, ideally, manufacturing cost accounting.
- Prior experience working in a small to medium-sized manufacturing company is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in learning and quickly adapting to financial and accounting software platforms. Timberlane uses: Visual Manufacturing ERP (Infor), Kebrite, Smartview, KBMax (Epicor), Salesforce, Microsoft Office suite, Paycor.
- Strong understanding of GAAP principles, internal controls, and financial reporting standards.
- Experience in managing multi-state sales tax compliance and administration.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with keen attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to convey financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
